    I worked at PMC-Sierra full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Unlike many other companies, the CEO and upper management actually understand the product catalog and can have a meaningful technical conversation. This generally leads to better high-level decisions about product lines and R&D planning.

    Cons

The Houston office is small with not a lot of room for growth. If you want long-term career advancement options as an engineer, you'd be better off in one of the offices in California or British Columbia.

Product engineering schedules are usually set by marketing/sales teams, and rarely have any connection to reality (e.g. only scheduling a week for a month-long hardware prototype test process). The result is an environment where everyone is running around putting out proverbial fires and there's no time to improve processes and do things the right way.

    I worked at PMC-Sierra full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Kind co-workers with nice environments, including cafeteria and gym. Greate infra/system to learn technical skills as a coop student.

    Cons

Nothing specially negative. You need to be "people person". You must know how to manager your time in the independent environment.

I have been working at PMC-Sierra full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Highly skilled group of people, and most often go out of their way to help others when needed. Usually good work/life balance in most groups, with lots of work schedule flexibility, although around critical milestones expectations of employees can be extremely high.

    Cons

Salaries/benefits could be better. Project management is often poor, with unrealistic schedules and insufficient staffing resources assigned to projects.

    Advice to Management

    Better project management.
