I have been working at PMC-Sierra part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with, and the products are interesting. Recently there have been major pushes for advancing into new directions.

    Cons

Acquisition is killing the company. Too many layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Keep your employees in the "loop".
Don't overload one person with many many many tasks.
People have to sleep to be more productive.

I have been working at PMC-Sierra full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work environment. Site committee do good job of organizing team activities. Employee stock purchase discount. 401k match. Medical, Dental and Eye care plans at competitive rates. Competitive salaries. Opportunities to take on additional responsibilities if you're willing to make sure you get your assigned tasks completed too.

    Cons

Most sites are quite small so difficult to move up if senior people aren't leaving. IT runs thru Canada which results in extremely poor network performance.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on rewarding on results.

    I worked at PMC-Sierra full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

PMC-Sierra has great people and products. They also have excellent processes around people and strong processes around product development. As a result the products are very high quality and consistently win awards for quality from their customers.

    Cons

The only cons relate to historical earnings and performance of the stock. At the time of writing both are a little flat however this may change quickly in the future as the company has excellent prospects. The reader may easily form their own opinion on this topic and can do so by consulting publicly available information.

    Advice to Management

Keep going with the strong people and product development processes as these are both assets to keeping good people and making quality products.
Continue expanding into new product areas to provide growth.

    I worked at PMC-Sierra full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, no pressure to deliver results, barely needed to work 40 hours a week, great place for those forced out of HP to coast until they can retire.

    Cons

All interesting work is done in Sunnyvale, Burnaby, and other offices. Roseville engineering management is not allowed to make decisions because they're not respected by the rest of the company. Company is run by marketing, not by engineers.

    Advice to Management

Fire all the HP refugees, take Canada out of the decision making loop.
