I worked at PNNL full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible working hours. You don't have to work 8h/day every day, it can be more or less. Of course there are specific times of the year when you have to align your time.

    Cons

You are left working alone the whole time. No team spirit. No support from managers and supervisors.

The working environment can get quite bully. You better be careful what you say and to who. Also, you better hide your personal life. And get ready to work when you are on vacation.

The management was extremely confusing, starting from its hierarky. It wasn't clear who I had to respond to.

Overall, not a good place for professional growth and not a healthy working environment.

    Advice to Management

Please, clarify your hierarchy. Value your employees, first of all as humans. A happy employee gets more productive and is more likely to stay.

I worked at PNNL as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Cool, smart people, everyone knows what they are supposed to be doing. Interns had a cool BBQ during the summer. Work was somewhat meaningful (as an intern). Colleagues express care for you when you are unsure about something which is nice

    Cons

Environment is what you would expect at a government run facility. Could use more bean bags and...color. Sat in my chair and coded for 8 hours a day. Some find that fun, not me (learned that real quickly).

I worked at PNNL full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good balance between work and life. Flexible schedules.

    Cons

Manager was unavailable, unqualified, and unprofessional. And weird. He made up lies about my performance just to document something on paper. He made racist and sexual innuendoes. Terrible.

    Advice to Management

Get it together. You have better people that can manage your groups and departments. Why are people who border on crazy always get the management positions.
