      Good people, decent infrastructure

      Pros

Experience, flexibility with schedule/hours as long as you get your time completed.

      Cons

Raises/bonuses need to be more merit based. You have to constantly remind management of your accomplishments, if they do not pertain to your goals then it does not help/hurt you. Goals are graded after upper management gets a curve; most are only raised to keep up with inflation ~2.5-3% . You have to be in managements face constantly or a favorite to get graded beyond a 3 on a 5 point scale.

      Decent pay, but severely understaffed

Dec 3, 2020 - Project Manager in Washington, DC

      Pros

Pay is decent, I have a permanently WFH position which is nice. Colleagues are usually very friendly and helpful. Line managers are nice, within their limited capabilities.

      Cons

Upper management bids on much, much more work than their workforce can actually take on. Work-life balance is nearly impossible; clients are demanding, timelines are always tight, and you are always given more work than you can manage, because there are never enough hands to take it on. Even within my organization, the VPs are completely dismissive of PM feedback of being overwhelmed. Reorganizations and new software/system rollouts come with minimal training - which we wouldn't have time to take even if there was training.

      Pros

-Comradery between employees of similar level. -Good location . -Well established if you're looking for someone to tell you exactly what to do and how to do it.

      Cons

-Poor salary compared to similar companies in the area. -High turnover in all levels of employment (on my 4th supervisor in 12 months). -Little to no flexibility. -Middle management rarely takes concerns seriously or voices them to upper management. -Abysmal response to COVID-19 (transitioned from assigned desks to hot-desking, no mask requirement for months, the PPD branded masks are a joke). -No effort put into identifying waste using project management tools like LEAN or 6-sigma. Middle management would rather just tell employees to work faster without compromising quality. -Unrealistic turn around time requirements made up by upper management when the clients had no say in what they are happy with. -The bar for getting fired or put on performance improvement is so high that bad/toxic analysts never leave or get re-trained which means good analysts are always picking up after them/spending hours fixing their mistakes, causing good analysts to leave the company.

Great for beginners but not for long-term career

      Pros

      - Great for individuals who are new to the CRO or pharmaceutical industry. - Great stepping stone for eventual upward trajectory into pharma. - Hardworking and dedicated colleagues. - PPD is a good company to 'come from' but not 'work for'.

      Cons

      - Compensation is not competitive for CRO industry. - Training is sub-par relative to competitors. - Little to no support for challenging project-related work. - Work-life balance is minimally considered by upper management.

      No work/life balance Apathetic management

Feb 21, 2020 - Senior Proposal Specialist in Wilmington, NC

      Pros

Work from home, Internet stipend, generous PTO based on tenure; 17 days minimum up to 27 . PTO sell back (up to 40 hrs) PTO carry over (up to 80 hrs) 9 paid holidays. Two additional floating holidays, Benefits are decent if single not as good if carrying a family. Maternity and paternity leave. Depending on salary easy to transfer between departments. As a whole, PPD not a bad company just my department.

      Cons

No such thing as a 40-hour week more like 55-60 min. Management in my department is clueless, unhelpful and gives vague advice that doesn't help. Triaging RFPs and RFIs is a joke. Assignments always more complicated then led to believe. I have had two check in calls in 4 months with my manager. High turnover due to lack of staff for workload and lack of help with problems. Others lack of planning is your emergency. Lack of clarity on work boundaries. A lot of talk of improvement with little action. Feedback requested but never moved on. My division in my department does not even have team calls since last manager quit after 6 months. Rapidly changing procedures are not communicated well to team. Upper management and HR do not seem to care. I tried to raise an issue with HR regarding performance and was told I could only talk to my manager who was the problem. No one in HR wants to help just cover PPD. PPD just went public. I am sure c-suite got stock options and bonuses, but normal workers received nothing but an email saying thanks for hard work. Perhaps stock employee option is in the works but no word.

      Not that Great

Jan 16, 2019 - Senior Financial Analyst in Wilmington, NC

      Pros

Its a job in a town where finance jobs are not easy to find. Also, co-workers are for the most part great to work with.

      Cons

No development unless you are a cpa because mgmt is so cheap they dont want to spend money on anything. They only seem to value cpas so dont expect any advancement no matter how many hours you work and you will be worked to death on weekends and holidays. Upper management does not trust anyone who works for them to do their jobs and this effects every level of the company and makes it feel like you are working in 1975. Systems are old and havent really been implemented correctly for company nor upgraded properly so that contributes to ridiculous hours. They are implementing a new system but with the managers they have its likely to be less than optimal as mentioned they will do anything to save a buck.

      Poor leadership from upper management.

      Pros

The health insurance coverage is good.

      Cons

Extremely low pay for the market (some positions pay less than Target and your working in a highly regulated environment with chemical exposure). Expectation to work long hours when in management/poor work life balance Zero guidance for first line supervisors, especially those working alternate shifts Denied additional training by management and told 'its not necessary for the job' when it really is No career development whatsoever and you will be stuck in the same position with very limited option for promoting internally Recorded record profits but raises across the board wouldn't cover basic cost-of-living increases for employees Extremely high employee turn-over in all departments Encountered several instances of data falsification, which would not be address by upper management.

      Poor HR & Upper Management

Feb 25, 2019 - Manager of Sample Management in Richmond, VA
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Flexibility, competitive salary, opportunities for growth, learning experiences

      Cons

HR is very inconsistent and does know what exactly is going on, I have never worked for a company, where HR runs the department instead of the management team. This has been the worst organization I have worked for in my entire life. Upper management will not speak or support management within the department, HR runs the department without knowing what is going on.

      Pros

Wonderful colleagues to work with. This is for the Morrisville, NC location specific review. Good work life balance.

      Cons

The upper management needs to shed the micro managing habit. Promotions are hard to come by. Upper mgmt makes up excuses (they call reasoning) to justify lack of promotions. Salaries are not as competitive when compared to industry standards, even in the same city.
