I worked at PPG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay was solid and the perks were great. Company car and phone and office equipment. The job itself was pretty straightforward for a sales job. Manageable sized territory.

    Cons

I was laid off by HR. In fact the company laid off 1700 people because of poor sales. It was not performance based at all, or so I was told. They just "eliminated territories by size." So PPG did not reward hard work, because I was a top salesperson, just whatever was easier for the HR people. The severance package was good I will say.

    Advice to Management

    Evaluate people for performance

I worked at PPG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Could work independently and let me make Draw Downs a full-time position:
let me revamp department to be workable, filing system & labels.
     other stores protocol.,by laminating procedures.

    Cons

Since it WAS never a real position; company didn't see it as a different position which deserved larger pay rate.

    Advice to Management

Realize employee potential & address these. knowing a NEW Job Title had been made. With attention for rate according to duties.

    I worked at PPG full-time

    Pros

Large company. Room for growth. Very professional on all levels. Great view of the city!

    Cons

Stern and managers who do not understand personal matters. Fires one gentleman for not picking up on a TON of information in only two weeks!

    Advice to Management

Get to know your employees on a personal level just a little. Be more understanding when an employee loses a parent to cancer! Business is important, I get it, but you have to take care of your employees in times of need as well.

I worked at PPG (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A good entry level job to learn the coatings business

    Cons

Poor leadership in Chicago, too many people in charge and no one knows whats going on!

    Advice to Management

Figure out what PPG wants to do. It changes every 6 months.

I have been working at PPG full-time

    Pros

The culture within the company embraces innovation. The scientists are open to hearing ideas, and the company rarely lays off its research teams.

    Cons

The benefits are poor, the research centers emphasize that only the PhD's opinions matter, and the only way to transfer an idea from being heard to being accepted is to ask a PhD to support the concept.

    Advice to Management

Focus less on how much money something is going to cost in the immediate future and focus more on the investment that is being made.

I have been working at PPG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work with Lowe's associates to drive sales. I loved the flexibility that the job offers. This is a great position that can lead to further opportunities with other companies.

    Cons

Micro manage sales force. Trying to push sales by doing things that take you away from the paint isle. The company forces you to work 30 mandatory Saturdays many of which revolve around holidays in the summer.

    Advice to Management

Hire the best people and then allow them to push sales with out all the micro management. Get rid of
middle management layers and pay your sales people that are in front of the customers more. Match on 401k before 5 years. The 401k program does not attract top tear candidates.
