I worked at PPG full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

None! Do not recommend this job to anyone!

    Cons

    Everything!
    * No 401k company match for 5 years.
    * Under paid for a 45 hour work week including 30 Saturday's a year. Start at 34K a year.
    *Micromanaged
    * Company Car, but $125.00 a month is taken out of paycheck a month.
    * Work phone, but no social media allowed on it
    * When you leave company, even when putting in 2 weeks notice... immediately release you from your position. Will not pay out vacation you earned and will also not pay you last paycheck because they say they over paid you. Claim they do not tolerate retaliation, but they do it themselves.
    * Regional Managers are useless. Not leaders just overbearing micromanagers.

    Advice to Management

Do not work for this company ! Too big for their own shoes. Territory managers are underpaid and underappreciated and never listen to. Absolutely the worst job I have ever had in my 22 plus years in this field.

I worked at PPG (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Benefits are great
Commercial marine products are great I believed in that

    Cons

    - Not willing to train you learn as you go atmosphere.
    - If you were not a contractor you were not important. As told to me by a
    co-worers
-"Dot Card" QC is horrible company wide....
-To many integrated product paint Porter,Gliden, PPG paints, Flood.... Its not really a PPG brand its a distributor of bough out companies.... Most is PPG and Porter.
    - Poor customer service. I have worked in retail stores for a long time this location was a retail store but it operated as a contractor store.... I did not understand this bc at SW every customer was important......
    - Everyone has a specific job no one could ever recommend epoxy or floor covering.. You had to call someone xxxxxx my customers need solutions "now"
-Just not what I was expecting they take all SW talent and I see why others said stick with SW!

    Advice to Management

    Fix your QC
Fix your training and the importance of Customer Service
Grow and understand your markets not just satisfying the ones you already have
This market could have had more PPG locations to help their customers instead they let Spectrum and SW run it.

Variety of career opportunities, good place to learn about several different businesses.

    Cons

I worked at PPG full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Once you are "in" with senior leadership, they will provide you great opportunities, projects and visibility.

    Cons

Focus was consistently on results and revenue, even at the expense of employees. Decisions made were strictly focused on the bottom line and all employees suffered. Benefits had such a high cost that some hourly associates were unable to afford them for their families. McGarry's current actions in the attempted hostile take over of AkzoNobel is indicative of how he runs the company - you could get run over

    Advice to Management

Give credit to team members as earned. Avoid playing favorites.
