I worked at PPG full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Multi-National
    Well Structured
    Good Name - Reputation

    Cons

    Unrealistic expectations
Higher ups does not assume their responsibility
    Lack of support

    Advice to Management

Glidden on The Home Depot is not making $$$, and especially in the Central Division is a lot of improvisation and unrealistic expectation. Van Lue & Ramirez shooting out of the whack. Not good.

I worked at PPG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay was solid and the perks were great. Company car and phone and office equipment. The job itself was pretty straightforward for a sales job. Manageable sized territory.

    Cons

I was laid off by HR. In fact the company laid off 1700 people because of poor sales. It was not performance based at all, or so I was told. They just "eliminated territories by size." So PPG did not reward hard work, because I was a top salesperson, just whatever was easier for the HR people. The severance package was good I will say.

    Advice to Management

    Evaluate people for performance

I have been working at PPG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work with Lowe's associates to drive sales. I loved the flexibility that the job offers. This is a great position that can lead to further opportunities with other companies.

    Cons

Micro manage sales force. Trying to push sales by doing things that take you away from the paint isle. The company forces you to work 30 mandatory Saturdays many of which revolve around holidays in the summer.

    Advice to Management

Hire the best people and then allow them to push sales with out all the micro management. Get rid of
middle management layers and pay your sales people that are in front of the customers more. Match on 401k before 5 years. The 401k program does not attract top tear candidates.

I have been working at PPG (More than a year)

    Pros

I have been with the company for 1y 8 months. It's a great company with great benefits. If you work hard, and can manage your time appropriately then you will do well.

    Cons

On the Glidde side the struggle within the home centers, and not having enough brand recognition. You have to fight Harder for everything since we aren't "exclusive"

    Advice to Management

Providing more support on the training side, selling skills, and keep working with the Home Centers to gain more brand recognition.

I have been working at PPG (More than a year)

    Pros

flexible work schedule. They give you a company car to drive, but you have to pay for it out of you salary $125.00 month. :(

    Cons

Low Pay compared to your competition, 45 hr work week excluding drive time. Great boss, Corp sucks. Saturday work schedule

    Advice to Management

Higher pay to meet industrial average, stop treating your sales reps like retail help.

I have been working at PPG full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pretty easy job, low stress most of the time, make your own schedule, company car and phone

    Cons

Pay is dirt cheap, I don't know what this company does with its profits certainly not pay its employees. No work life balance, you can make your daily scheduled but you must work Fridays and Saturdays at least 8 hour days year around. Leaves no time for workers to have with their families. Bonus plan is nothing to get excited about. Marketing does a poor job of getting our name out there and TMs are expected to achieve all the sales gains by them selves and when they don't no raise as all. Even if you hit your numbers, when I did j got a 2-3% raise those years but PPG says they give pay increases on performance??

    Advice to Management

Listen to the needs of your staff, stop Boeing down to the big box. Promote from within, give your employees something to look forward to.
