I have been working at PSAV full-time

    Pros

Biggest AV company around the globe lots of opportunities if your willing to move you can go places. Do your homework ahead of time and you can be paid for your true worth over time.

    Cons

Quality of personal life can suffer during season which is typically 9 months out of the year. Bad employees tend to thrive in a large company as it takes longer to smoke out and unfortunately you can lose good employees in the process.

    Advice to Management

Look at Top Companies in the world and adapt the positive things they are doing within their culture, to attract and keep talented individuals long-term!

    Pros

A lot of opportunity to make overtime as well as move up in the company

    Cons

Company does not promote accordingly. Seems to move bad employees around instead of getting rid of.

    Advice to Management

Look at your quality employees to move up.

I have been working at PSAV full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ok pay for entry into the A/V industry.

    Cons

Getting proper equipment, or getting equipment fixed is like pulling teeth. Not really room for growth in the operations sector.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to get the correct equipment for the job to your locations. Video signal over fiber cable is not the best option in a hotel environment.

I worked at PSAV part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of online training resources for free. Lots of different equipment available for use.

    Cons

The company is moving its' technicians toward simpler tasks, expecting them to handle not much more than a basic meeting room setup. Only the technicial specialists are really able to get their hands on large shows. Working as a part time employee and becoming a technicial specialist does not happen often enough.

I worked at PSAV full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They have an excellent company infrastructure which gives the on-site technicians and management the support they need. Great benefits. Other locations will work together to send out support when they can.

    Cons

Very low pay for the work expected. Their pricing is often too high for the equipment they offer to rent. This creates a lot of stressful conversations for sales managers and directors to have with the end-user clients and the hotel partners.

    Advice to Management

Offer more competitive wages to your employees. They often work more than 50 hours per week, and have to answer calls/e-mails after-hours. They deserve to be compensated accordingly, as many PSAV employees sacrifice a great deal of their personal time for the job. This is not healthy for people.
Also, update your pricing each year according to the value of the technology. Some items are outrageously overpriced when they can be purchased for less at retail stores, which loses business for many smaller, bread-and-butter locations, and makes relations between PSAV and the hotel very tense! The hotel sales department showed no hesitation towards voicing their harsh criticisms of PSAV's pricing to me, which made me feel responsible for any business the hotel lost. Learn to price effectively for the location and the regional market in which they reside in.

Promoted from part to full time in less then 6 months

Good for resume, references, and experience

    Decent benefits

    Cons

Low paying compared to other AV companies

Very large company so corporate management often overlooks or doesn't care about low level

Some business partners can be less than helpful

    Advice to Management

Better wages and more incentive to pursue training

I worked at PSAV full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, lots of overtime, which means lots of extra cash, Base pay is pretty low, but if you can somehow get the overtime, do it. You will need it during the winter months if you're an hourly employee.

    Cons

Where do I start? At a larger property, like the one I was at, you have to deal with hotel people who are absolutely stupid.

I started out as an entry level technician, was quickly promoted to senior technician, and then again promoted to assistant director. Accepting the assistant director position was the worst thing I ever did for the company. After that, I was treated like trash and constantly ridiculed. My director, employees, upper level management, and sales people turned against me for some reason. I had gotten good remarks from the other managers and techs around town for helping them out during an emergency, and then a day later, I was threatened with a performance improvement plan. I worked 50-60 hours a week, sometimes staying 16 hours straight, and there was no incentive to continue doing so.

    Advice to Management

Treat you mid-level management better, especially if it's their first management job. Don't turn your back on your assistant directors. They are the ones that are really doing the hard work.
