A fantastic company for career building and personal growth
Feb 8, 2023 - Vice President in Washington, DCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
1) PSB truly values its employees, our PSBeings. The company's leaders invest time and money in training and skill development, and works to ensure we have the resources needed to do our jobs efficiently. It's a great place to learn new skills and apply past experiences to new challenges. 2) PSB is an inclusive environment that respects diverse backgrounds, work styles, perspectives, and needs. There is a genuine desire to look for ways to do better and be better as a company. 3) PSB is full of smart and talented people who foster a culture of excellence. We strive for continual improvement, but allow room for mistakes and personal growth. 4) PSB has great clients, including blue chip companies in a wide variety of industries. It's fun know that your work had an impact on a brand, message, or product that you and friends and family see out in market. 5) PSB operates with a smaller company feel but is part of WPP, one of the largest creative agencies on the planet. This offers us a vast network of resources and partners we can tap into to better serve clients and solve challenges.
Cons
The workload can vary (as is common within the consulting industry). Some periods are super busy, and others are slower, but the team works together to distribute work fairly and make productive use of time when needed.

Huge Positive Culture Shift
Feb 1, 2023 - Project Manager in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I have worked at PSB for 5 years and have seen a massive shift in the company culture since I started. When I first began as an intern many teams were working long hours taking on too many projects and lacking in work/life balance, but in the past few years a shift to focusing on higher profit margins and employee retention has led to PSB becoming a great company to work for. I have the freedom to work remotely and come into the office when I want and the overall company is much happier and more profitable than ever before.
Cons
Compensation can still be improved.

Pros
PSB has been on a roll making improvements to its culture and competitiveness with rich benefits including new paid parental leave in 2023 and a newly debuted flexible time off policy. Our teams enjoyed a down week during the holidays in 2022. We enjoy fun, collaborative, informative monthly company-wide calls where shout outs and business updates are shared alongside one another. Employees are known to take ownership and show a desire to learn and grow. Leadership supports that growth and encourages taking time for trainings and professional development.
Cons
I can't think of any deal breaking cons of working at PSB other than a lot of new programs were introduced in 2022 - but they were all really good and intended to improve the employee experience. Looking forward to streamlining some of those programs and utilizing them fully!

Pros
PSB has great people, and leaders who are genuinely trying to make PSB the best place to work it can be while remaining profitable. People are responsive, client-focused, excellent researchers - and employees support one another and lift each other up. There is a strong DEIJ presence, and inclusion is taken very seriously. It's not perfect, as no place is, but it's great and getting better.
Cons
Like all research companies, we need more people doing the day to day research work. Analysts are our most precious resource, and we work hard to find and retain them - and sometimes we are successful, but sometimes we are not. And the reason we are improving is that we had a lot in our culture to change, and that takes time. However, these issues have been identified, addressed, and are getting better.

Great Place to Work
Feb 1, 2023 - Senior Director in Washington, DCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
PSB has really changed in the past number of years! They have gone from project team focus-based to embracing the entire company. They have spent a lot of time and money to give us great benefits, and really focusing on wellness and diversity. And they just moved to a flexible time off, really trying to encourage people to take time off when they want to and spend time with their family.
Cons
The only con is that raises are not consistent. Many employees get increases every 18-24 months instead of yearly, which makes it hard at times, especially when the cost of living keeps increasing.

Good starting experience, but can be frustrating in terms of career growth
Aug 18, 2022 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Huge portfolio of clients to work with Management is very supportive of getting you to a team that has clients you want to work with The people are wonderful and friendly. Handled COVID very well, remote work friendly and optional hybrid.
Cons
High turnover at the analyst/PM level due to low pay in comparison with other research companies in the area. Crunches are frequent and often result in weekend work. Survey launch on Fridays are way to prevalent across the organization, requiring analysts/PMs to check in on the weekend. It feels like a battle to get any sort of raise or additional compensation for either performance or to combat inflation. This can be extremely demoralizing over a period of time. I received a raise last year and am already being paid effectively less than I was. While PSB has done work to improve the promotion process, it still feels extremely political. I personally have been told I was ready for promotion 3 cycles in a row, only to not get one and be told "there was only so much budget and so many people deserve one". The way PSB manages data and runs surveys is extremely outdated and costly.

Apr 7, 2022 - Senior Project ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- exposure to a variety of methodologies/projects, interesting clients - genuinely smart people, ready to solve complex problems - competitive pay to bring people in, not to stay - I was giving a strong and bright mentor, which I appreciated
Cons
- exposure also means taking on more duties above your pay grade w/o any add'l benefits, translating to burnout - I didn't realize how toxic the work environment was until I left. You almost convince yourself that because the people are smart, the work is challenging & it's worth staying. - there isn't any real training for your role, you just learn as you go. - Red-lining reports/documents is standard practice, but this is not a proper feedback arch. Managers do not know how to provide proper feedback, nor the time to do so - no support (besides $100 at the start) to help you work from home for COVID but nothing ongoing that a lot of other companies do - not an equitable environment: men with less experience then their female counterparts are paid more for the same role & promoted more often - Sr. Project Manager salary band was $80-90k. Director: 90-$110k. This is on the low end in DC consulting. Sr Director up to $150k during competitive COVID hiring.
