    Pros

I worked for PTC in Blaine and Arden Hills for a number of years. The people in the MN office are great and were always supportive of their coworkers. There were plenty of opportunities to move forward in my career and learn new things. I got a lot of great experience from working at PTC.

    Cons

With any corporation there are decisions and programs that work and some that miss the mark when they are rolled out to all of the offices. So it would be easy to list some of the poor ones. Better to look at how the company is actually performing. There is a current trend to lay off experienced people in one location and hire people in cheaper locations. A number of people from my office including me were let go. Given the track record, this is probably not the last lay off. Now it is time to watch whether this works or not.

    Advice to Management

The people remaining are probably afraid for their jobs with the randomness and wide sweeping lay offs so it will be a tough road ahead if you want to keep the remaining.

I have been working at PTC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Early adopters of Agile methodology. Flexible work environment. Option to work home once or twice a week and during emergencies is great!

    Cons

Have not been entirely up to date with adopting the latest technologies. Somewhere along the way this has entirely fallen off the radar. Too many acquisitions in the past few years. Don't see a clear goal for the future.

    Advice to Management

There are tons of opportunities in the PLM domain and other companies are going after it leaving us behind. We are investing too much resources in IoT leaving the crux of our products behind.

I worked at PTC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    + Working from home
    + Easy hiring process
+ Travel every other week typically (so you aren't forced to travel weekly)

    Cons

    - Lay offs galore
    - Executive leadership strategy does not trickle down to managers
    - Lots of company politics and having to "suck up" to directors to get a promotion (not merit based)
    - Company is indifferent about poor managerial skills
    - Clients often have bad POV of PTC
    - 4 month training academy for Associate Consultants is a joke.. Could be limited to 1 or 2 months!
    - Was hired with 15 others and told "guaranteed promotion to consultant within 6 months" - worked for a year without a promotion
    - WAY too many delays- i.e. wasn't assigned a manager until 6 months in and we were supposed to have one at 2 months.
    - Lots of misdirection.. Poor company foresight led to several months of "being on the bench" with no project work and stagnating.
    - Too much bureaucracy and lack of communication between various components of the company

    Advice to Management

    - Recognize people for merit, not ability to suck up to managers
    - Executive leadership needs to improve communication channels with VPs, Directors, and Managers
    - Cut the 4 month "global service academy" and shorten to 1 month. Most of the material is bland, common knowledge, and frankly embarrassing that the company needs to have it in their training material
    - Don't make promises you can't keep about promotions!

I worked at PTC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People are supported with a flexible work environment, allowing a good work-life balance. The employee-focussed programs are fun and encourage team involvement. Pay and benefits seemed fair. Trust was giving allowing for true ownership of projects.

    Cons

Reductions happen pretty frequently and even the smallest teams aren't safe. Even with reduction in team members, teams are expected to do the same amount of work and more.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to your team members and build trust among other employees. Collaborate between departments, not just teams.

I worked at PTC (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing people, dynamic work, wonderful opportunities to network and travel

    Cons

Very cold, numbers based company. Employment based on "business needs" and (sometimes very inaccurate) projections

    Advice to Management

High margins doesn't mean your company is doing well.
