I have been working at Pace Harmon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1) Smaller team size allow all members of a team to actively participate in all aspects of a project (such as project management, financial analysis, and executive briefings).

    2) Offers the ability to collaborate with extremely high performing resources. Due to size of the firm and executive level visibility for most projects, there really is no where to hide weaker resources.

    3) Although culture varies among the offices, Pace Harmon generally maintains an informal, collegial culture that encourages collaboration / team work.

    Cons

    1) The fast-paced nature of projects does not allow for project teams to fall behind and be able to catch up later. Resources are expected to perform at a high level from Day 1 and seek immediate guidance when required.

    2) The knowledge repository is not yet mature, so team members are expected to leverage external tools and / or other resources for research.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the high standards!

I have been working at Pace Harmon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great level of responsibility for analysts

    - Easy to approach senior practitioners within the firm

    - Greater exposure to clients

    - Steep learning curve

    - Work with some of the most talented/experienced consultants in IT/Business Process Outsourcing/Optimization space

    - Decent work-life balance

    Cons

    - Practitioners rarely spend time together outside of work

    - Senior-heavy org structure

    - At times work can be tedious as we do a lot of document creation

    - Work can get repetitive - may do same things across different clients / industries

    Advice to Management

Have been enjoying time here at Pace Harmon - can't think of another place where I could've learned / developed professionally so quickly

Though, it would be nice if we could foster more firm culture outside of work

I worked at Pace Harmon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Outstanding experience, accelerated growth and career path, and no limit to growth. Fantastic culture, built and reinforced by the partners and firm leadership. Compensation for top college grads is much higher than the big-four, and at par or better than the top 3 strategy consultancies.

    Cons

Trial by fire - not for the faint hearted - hard work, challenging assignments, and no time-outs

    Advice to Management

Continue to build your brand - Pace Harmon is one of the best kept secrets on college campuses.

I have been working at Pace Harmon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Exceptional culture enabled by management philosophy that balances local office and firm wide connectivity and collegiality among the staff. Premium placed on the team, not the individual - although meritocracy in the purest form. Far better than the large GMC firms that attempt to promote "virtual" affinity through their industry or service line programs and considerably more rewarding than other boutiques that have done away with physical offices altogether. Leaders of the firm are gifted at establishing C-level relationships with the F500 and Tier 1 P/E Firms - they have the formula right. Compensation has been strong since inception and with recently formed ESOP, leaders are building this firm for the long term.

    Cons

As with any successful consulting firm, travel and client demands need to be balanced - need to be comfortable with the lifestyle.

    Advice to Management

Consider starting the analysts off with four (vs. three) weeks of vacation from day 1.

I have been working at Pace Harmon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great clients, complex and impactful work, tremendous opportunities to accelerate your career. A true meritocracy, where high horsepower, hard work, and client commitment are richly rewarded. Everyone at every level is helpful, approachable, and dedicated to the success of every project, every client, and the firm overall. The opportunities you get here cannot be replicated at other consulting firms. Company values reflect clients, staff, and doing well while doing good.

    Cons

There's no place to hide for slacker or underachievers. Everyone's contribution is recognized and needed, so if you're not pulling your weight it will be easily recognized. Travel can be a challenge, but that's the nature of this business... and it enables executive client relationships that more than offset he travel challenges.

    Advice to Management

Don't coddle entitled employees. This place is too great to let underperformers or complainers have a seat at the table. Keep recruiting and don't settle for anything less than A+ players! Let the others go to the inferior competition.

I worked at Pace Harmon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work at Pace Harmon is complex, strategic, and delivered to senior level client executives. The teams are pretty small, mostly around 3-6 people, which means all consultants have exposure to the clients’ executives. This is pretty unique and is a real benefit over other firms – both large and boutique. I also like that everyone at the firm does client facing work making it feel far less hierarchical than other firms and giving everyone direct access to the firm’s leadership team.

    Cons

It’s a boutique firm, if you’re not interested in the type of work the firm does, you’re probably in the wrong place. Also, the focus is definitely more on client service than anything else – if you are looking for home office based work, teleworking, and limited travel then this isn’t the place for you!

    Advice to Management

Do whatever you can to maintain the quality of the people as you grow.

I worked at Pace Harmon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Much of the work is conducted directly with senior executives at Fortune 500 and other large companies. All levels of staff interact with clients with high frequency, and junior staff in particular are given a chance to interact with senior clients. Direct access to firm leadership means you get a view into the consulting business and constant coaching on work products.

    Cons

Still a small firm, and internal processes can be immature at times. Internal initiatives can be delayed at times due to hyperfocus on client work and relationships.

    Advice to Management

Figure out an approach to faster growth while retaining current talent levels.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Lots of high profile clients and projects
Staff and Senior level practitioners among the best

    Cons

    Leadership is awful
Compensation is a popularity contest and always a mystery at bonus time
Long hours expected with little or no recognition or reward
Leadership team disrespectful of personal (outside of work) priorities

    Advice to Management

    great idea, poor execution
partner greed seems the motivation here, at the expense of practitioners.
unsustainable model, real leaders have left and are looking elsewhere

    Pros

Great, intelligent coworkers; collegial environment; learning on the job means more responsibility is given to you from the start; very competitive compensation and benefits

    Cons

As with any small firm, things tend to be more unstructured; no brand name; projects are not consistently high value; not a ton of internal resources to leverage aside from human capital
