I worked at Pacific Blue Cross full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

a good place to work, very caring environment, supportive of team mates,

    Cons

the way they determine holiday time based on seniority does not work for employees with families. Don't expect summer holidays unless you have been there for a long time.

I have been working at Pacific Blue Cross

    Pros

35 hour work week Good pay

    Cons

Management Expected to take call after call like some robot

    Advice to Management

Mix in some other tasks on days that are not too busy. Very exhausting to continuously be on calls. Open up more permanent positions. No one wants to be a temporary contracted employee for 3+ years.

I have been working at Pacific Blue Cross full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The company is dynamic and is definitely evolving and progressing with the times. There are some interesting projects on the go and all very much focused on improving the member experience and creating a strong company culture.

    Cons

Like anywhere there are areas to improve but it's great to see they are looking at everything and determined to find solutions to meet the needs of the staff and members.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

I worked at Pacific Blue Cross full-time

      Pros

Worked here for less than 2 years shy. Benefits and starting wadge was the only pros.

      Cons

If you are looking for a job. This might be for you but I have seen the numbers come and go. They hire classes of up to 13 because people keep leaving yet claim it's from people moving up to sound enticing. The training curriculum is unorganized and you are expected to keep up with the pace even if your have no experience ever working insurance a day in your life. The hiring and assessment is absolutely unrealistic...

      Advice to Management

Don't hire trainers who do not have experience. Include engagement activities so people aren't sleeping when they should be learning. Get an outside organizational support counselor interview the employees in private to raise real concerns they are too afraid to voice.

I worked at Pacific Blue Cross full-time

      Pros

      - depending on department, supportive coworkers - OK salary - good benefits - 35 hr work week - some flexibility in work hours

      Cons

      - company has too many managers, constantly increasing the mgmt sector while decreasing the unionized staff numbers - micromanagement is the order of the day - very low staff morale - open workspace with cubicles with very low partition walls, only about a foot high, causes stress as one has to hear others' conversations and sit surrounded by people you can't avoid looking at (or being looked at), all staff are stressed...

      Advice to Management

Reduce the numbers in the management sector. Value, trust and respect your staff, that's how you can rebuild trust towards management.
