    Pros

Forward thinking business plans and focused on cost-efficient operational decisions. Committed to safe working practices and principles. Some great people to work with!

    Cons

Still experiencing some growing pains, coming from being non-existent through start-up stages and now almost fully operational with the current fleet of eight UDW drillships.

    Advice to Management

Maintain focus on putting the right people in the correct positions, and not to overgrow the head office support team beyond the point of full utilization.

I have been working at Pacific Drilling full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Salaries are pretty decent for the industry.

    Cons

Don't trust the Human Resources department, a bunch of backwards, back stabbing, less than qualified individuals who keep their jobs because they know the right people. This company needs to be shut down or completely cleaned out and start all over. I feel bad for the guys in the field.. they are hard workers, but given terrible management. Lots of overpaid pointless positions. Lots of managers and supervisors with no one to manage or supervise.

    Advice to Management

Quit your jobs and let people more qualified come in.

I worked at Pacific Drilling full-time

    Pros

Hardly any work to be done in the office, if you’re into that. A handful of people know what they are doing, so if you follow their example you can accrue experience needed for when you inevitably apply elsewhere. If you are employed now, welcome to the skeleton crew. They can’t really afford to lose you until they get bought out. There is not much micromanaging, due to the buddy system.

    Cons

They will pay you pennies, especially if you’re hard up for work. This was, honestly, the most nepotistic environment in which I have ever participated. People are allowed to manage groups with which they have zero knowledge or experience and bring equally low work ethic or morals and face no consequences because of relationships within the highest management. Projects take triple the time because the ineptitude sprinkles downhill on the other unqualified people who accepted the industry minimum wage for whatever purpose...

But all of that won’t matter soon enough, because they are teetering in the drain. The CEO jumped ship, the public stock was delisted to pink sheets and now they are entering chapter 11. Maybe karma does exist.

    Advice to Management

Dust off those resumes with the inflated titles left vacant by your predecessors and enjoy hoarding the free money while you can.

I worked at Pacific Drilling full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people on the rigs and in the office
They are trying to protect their employees during the down turn

    Cons

Some Rig Managers are out of touch with their people
Some Rig Managers think that fear and intimidation are how to run the rigs
Not allowing your staff to input new ideas

    Advice to Management

Throw out the old style (80's) management of fear and intimidation and get on with trusting your people to do their job.
