I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Relatively stable company with decent benefits.

    Cons

No growth, in fact, with solar, battery storage and CCA, the company business is shrinking. May not survive in the next 50 years if business model stays the same.

    Advice to Management

    Need to be more innovative.

    Pros

Large company with long history. Great benefits.

    Cons

Not an IT minded company, lots of reorgs and constant duplication of work. Work life balance does not exist for many positions.

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits; smart, dedicated people

    Cons

Seemingly shot gun approach to long term strategy development; hindered by trying to be everything to everybody

    Advice to Management

Use KPI's better to drive management decisions as well as risk based approach; hold officers and directors accountable for their budgets and deliverables

    Pros

Great benefits and 401K matching. Option to work from home on Fridays. Nice co-workers. Open to express ideas. Work life balance.

    Cons

A lot of processes are manual. Training for new employees very limited. Too many meetings and receive to many emails. Don't always hire the most qualified person for the job.

    Advice to Management

Don't always listen to the employees. Take too long to implement changes.

    Pros

Fantastic benefits, caring co-workers, interesting time for the energy space

    Cons

Constant re-orgs (management seems to spend half the time planning the next re-org, on top of reviewing the last re-org), bureaucratic, lifer mentality for many long time employees

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

PG&E is a good company where you know what your job duty will be and you know the time you will leave the office. Decent pay, quiet workplace and you can move around in the company.

    Cons

PG&E like any large company is large and slow, probably the largest and slowest company to react to changing markets in the Bay Area and possibly California. It's run on a buddy system and if you happen to make good buddy's you will do fine. Lots of company speak with some action, top doesn't necessarily see or want to see what's happening on the bottom.

    Advice to Management

Be more proactive to the thoughts and wishes of the employees. Don't be as reactive with the next big thing to narrow in on and make everyone adhere to the policies that may not be best suited for the entire company.
