I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, good work balance, large company with stability and options. I have worked here on and off for two decades and can't say enough good things about it.

    Cons

Lots of beauracracy, lots of paperwork and processes. Processes are not always intuitive.

    Advice to Management

Need to look at processes holistically. Stop focusing on metrics and goals for individual silos.

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Constant changes give new challenges everyday. The company is working to improve systems and processes constantly.

    Cons

The company is leaning out the systems and targets to reduce workforce over the next several years.

    Advice to Management

Be sensitive to the employees that have been working for their entires lives when laying off employees. Giving employees a sense that their service was appreciated is good for the moral of people that have worked a lifetime dedicated to the company.

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

PG&E has excellent benefits. The company is also a leader in diversity which is very apparent in the SF general office, more of a challenge in field locations. Pay is very competitive and company leadership does appear to preserve employee pay and jobs while streamlining processes and finding savings.

    Cons

As an older company, PG&E is slow to adopt new technologies and trends, and when they do the attention span seems short. Many new ideas aren't given the run time they need to succeed. Many processes are manual and cumbersome. PG&E needs to adjust quickly to keep pace with technology, changing employee expectations and the energy market.

    Advice to Management

Listen actively to your employees. Make yourselves available. Emphasize guiding, coaching, and communication over administrative tasks and meetings. Challenge yourself to budget your time in more meaningful ways with other people. Be willing to be the first of your peers to support a new approach. Exercise humility.

    Pros

Let me start by saying compensation is awesome! The benefits are amazing. A lot of companies are getting away from pensions and PG&E is still running strong. Free vision and dental. This company is by far one of the top five companies to work for in California.

    Cons

There is no cons to this company.

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Great work-life balance.
-Tons of development training paid for by the company.
-Amazing benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K match, Life Insurance, Pension, 3 weeks vacation)
    -Family Friendly

    Cons

    -Highly regulated industry.

-Communities have mixed reviews about the company which can sometimes make your job difficult. Either customers really love us or really hate us. The good thing is that the company is aware and has put forth real effort to change that negative perception by being safe, reliable, and affordable.

    Advice to Management

Continue to encourage the speak up culture.
