I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are wonderful people at this company. It is like a family in some very good ways. Leadership is forward thinking and looking to continously improve in every way.

    Cons

Highly political. Ive seen blatant nepotism and quid pro quo deals from high level mangement. Everything is run by the "good old boy" network, with females sprinkled in only in a few positions. Women are still simply not seen as fitting in.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting your buddies and start cultivating the competent, hard workers readily available in your company.

    Pros

Great Benefits and pay, great people

    Cons

Cut throat, fast paced and dishonest. No process oversight

    Advice to Management

Reasons for overspending. The processes can change for the better but, if the workers do not change it is useless.

I worked at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Was a great way to experience multiple IT roles at PG&E
People there are great to work with always willing to give a hand

    Cons

Budgeting can be a problem for the program
Sometimes being placed in roles that would not pan out to any permanent job hurts the rotational person in the end.

    Pros

    Cons

Hierarchical culture with slow decision making and minimal interest in innovation.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees who have passion and are willing to take risks. Make the performance review process more fair.

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Our team works together in everything we do. We all know when it is time to work and when it is time to have a little fun. We consistently look for efficiencies and ways to do our jobs better.

    Cons

Wishing LOBs would have the same drive as our team. Too much blaming and not enough accountability from other groups.

    Pros

Working outside with your hands alongside your coworkers. Gives you a sense of brotherhood. Great benefits and one of the safest companies to work for.

    Cons

Getting on is the hardest part. It took me 2.5 years to finally land an interview. When I got hired 12,000 applied for only 20 spots.

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work location is ok. staffs are friendly

    Cons

On the gas side of the business, PGE is not a likeable company due to its management. if you are considering a job there, you need to assess how it fits your values. PGE only makes revenue by the rate of return on project. PGE is corned by the loss of customers due to renewable energy and the lack of organic growth forcing PGE to increase project to maintain profit. They are one of most expensive utilities in america already, with aged system.

    Advice to Management

    Re-think your management strategy.
