I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, employee resources (education, affinity groups), and movement opportunities. Onsite free health classes (yoga, meditation, zumba, etc), and onsite daycare at the main office (by lottery). Also has a good employer matching charitable contribution program.

    Cons

Can be slow moving - it is a regulated utility. Can feel hierarchical - people get hung up on titles. Have a low amount of vacation (starts at 2 weeks, basically non-negotiable), and still no paid parental leave.

    Advice to Management

There are many good things about working here - keep up the good work! To stay competitive in the Bay Area, keep working on employee-friendly policies. Please institute paid parental leave and expand the onsite daycare!

I worked at Pacific Gas and Electric (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed working with so many cross-functional teams and engineers! The people are down to earth and I say with confidence are the best part of working at PG&E. Excellent growth opportunities. Mentorship is available but you have to be proactive and find it.

    Cons

Sometimes it became more apparent that management's priorities were more important than the problems risen from project engineers, gas engineers and estimators.

    Advice to Management

More advocacy is needed on your part in order for effective change to happen which can improve team productivity and project delivery process.

I worked at Pacific Gas and Electric as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Very good work environment in terms of people, technical support and task flow. Very flexible time constraints.

    Cons

No complaints whatsoever. I truly enjoyed working there as evidence to my agreement to four contract extensions. They do not overwhelm you with work.

    Advice to Management

They should be more flexible when offering a full-time position. I had to attend to a family emergency and this situation prevented me from accepting at that time. They wanted an answer there and then.

I worked at Pacific Gas and Electric as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Because this company is very large, there are many possible departments and employees with whom one might collaborate. I was placed on an understaffed team, where my role as an intern took on the responsibilities of a full-time employee for the summer. As a senior with an anticipated December graduation, this was the best preparation I could have asked for a post-graduation entry-level position. As a summer intern, you are expected to grow and adapt quickly, but current employees and supervisors are more than willing to guide you. This is an internship that is definitely not for those looking for an easy experience.

    Cons

Just like with any other company, the experience does heavily rely on which supervisor you get. Although my experience was great and challenging, other fellow interns with other departments were not as challenged because their supervisor assigned busy-work to them.

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have, in my opinion , one of the best jobs in the company. Excellent pay and a good work schedule are bonuses.

    Cons

There is a lot of overtime that sometimes you don't want to work, but you don't have a choice. Pge seems to hire a lot of people to full useless roles that could be cut out and nobody would ever know the difference .
