I worked at Palermo Frozen Pizza Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free pizza. Great location. Brand recognition.

    Cons

Horribly toxic - starting with the Owners. Worst executive leadership team that I've ever worked under. Micromanagement, turmoil, drama. They pay hourly employees minimum wage and expect blood, sweat and tears. Salaried positions are paid WAY below market hoping that the appeal of the "La Famiglia" culture makes up for it (it doesn't). No one good stays - I repeat...NO ONE GOOD STAYS. Outside of ownership, there are less than 10 people who work there that worked there when I was there. Owners show up to work in their Italian sports cars - I think that is SO tacky considering the majority of your employees, most of whom are hourly, make less than 20K/year. I don't have a problem with people who work hard and succeed and buy nice things. I do have a problem with owners who build a business on a model of paying their employees peanuts and then wipe their wealth in employees' faces.

    Advice to Management

The culture and work environment that exists at Palermo's was created by the owners and their executive leadership team. How do you fix how people are hard wired?

So, advice? Recognize that you are NOT an employer of choice. Listen to the feedback of people who have left your organization - so many of us talk about how much sweeter life is after Palermo's. Pay fair wages. Be kind.

I worked at Palermo Frozen Pizza Products full-time

    Pros

Free pizza, employees seemed enthusiastic at first. Potential for opportunities.

    Cons

Wow, where to start. Extremely high turnover. Got bad vibes when interviewing, but ignored them and really regretted it. Toxic people, back stabbing environment, incomprehensible review system. Basically all the quality people with integrity leave and those that remain are insecure and petty. Work environment was cramped and uncomfortable. Worked long hours and it went unnoticed.

    Advice to Management

Stop protecting bad managers. Hire people with integrity.

    Pros

Very friendly and close knit environment. Anyone should feel comfortable asking questions or making suggestions around the company because there is such an accepting culture.

    Cons

Some of the downsides would be that they company is just starting the lean journey so there is a lot of change that is being initiated which is a good thing but there seems to be some resistance to change by some of the long time employees.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great standing in the Milwaukee area and the favorable and friendly working environment. Those attributes will go a long way towards the future success of the company.

    Pros

Excellent place to work and develop your career, I recently left the company as I am relocating out of State, otherwise I would have retired from Palermo!

    Cons

None come to mind at this time-

    Advice to Management

Be more receptive to the "doers" input, allow them to participate more during the decision making process.

I have been working at Palermo Frozen Pizza Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The owners, Fullucca brothers, genuinely care about their employees. Working for Palermo's is like marrying into a very large, very Italian family. The base pay is fairly typically, but there are monthly, quarterly and annual bonuses paid out to all the line workers (annual bonuses to office staff) and the amount of free pizza I take home each month is incredible.

    Cons

This is a food manufacturer - a significant portion of the building is refrigerated and kept at 40 degrees. My hands are *always* cold.
