I have been working at Palo Alto Networks

    Pros

Compensation and benefits are good. Great products. Like the vision of the new CEO and where the company is going.

    Cons

No regular promotion Employee hardwork is not being recognized even though they say so. Pressure is being passed from the top to the front end employee. No Work life balance at all in some accounting and finance teams.

I have been working at Palo Alto Networks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good product which is able to compete in the market.

    Cons

Honesty and talent is not valued. Poor diversity. Poor work life balance. Existing engineers are not valued and very few growth opportunities. Managers are promoted just because they are in the company for a few years and they lack management and people skills. Doesn't help with their ego when people speak up which is detrimental to engineering. People who speak up are not encouraged and rather punished by some... means.

    Advice to Management

Diversity needs to be checked. Only people with managing skills need to be promoted to management level. Engineering practices need a check.

I have been working at Palo Alto Networks full-time

    Pros

Good pay Good benefits Lots of on campus perks Fertility benefit added for 2019

    Cons

Complete lack of project management An idea company, with no follow through, no tactical vision Work life balance is subjective based on your team Either people work hard, or they hardly work Micromanagement Clueless and non-engaged managers like to take credit for others' work. Extremely rude and degrading leaders in some areas, and this behavior is just accepted as the norm. I've actually seen 2 managers... who do this get promoted.

I have been working at Palo Alto Networks full-time for more than a year

    Pros

great place to learn and great product to learn. willingness to work with for work life balance. feed you lunch on Wednesday but is almost always Indian food.

    Cons

starting out new can be rough with all the assessments. Training is very fast and trainer in Plano does not like to help weaker candidates. There is a lot of favoritism in getting promoted.

    Advice to Management

Director should be more involved with promotions to keep managers from promoting favorites.

    Advice to Management

Do not promote people to management level because they have been in the company longer than others. Please evaluate their management skills before promoting them.

I worked at Palo Alto Networks full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Palo Alto Networks has a very relevant product.

    Cons

Management is a mess. Work life balance is horrible. Management expectations are not based in reality, previous quarter or previous year’s performance. Forecasting from the field is ignored or considered “poor performance”. Palo Alto Networks refuses to promote within and usually hires outside leaders. This created a disjointed culture and hostile leadership styles. Almost all events involves or is based on... alcohol consumption and whoever does not participate or leaves early is an “outsider.”

    Advice to Management

Palo Alto Networks was created to “ not be like the other BIG network companies.” But then they hired all the middle management from these notoriously bad behaved companies. Reminder: It IS possible to make money, be successful AND treat your employees decently.

I have been working at Palo Alto Networks full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

*fast paced *great product *frequent cross collaboration *work-life balance

    Cons

*no advancement, especially for women and people of color *career opportunities and growth go to the "boys club" and "cronies, if you are not part of either, forget trying to get ahead *D&I is all hype, lip service and run by all the wrong people, it's clear this effort is only to "check the boxes" *HR cannot be trusted, they have failed in so many ways and too often, some of the management and people... partners need to go *too many friends working for friends here, this practice gets in the way of good decision making and judgement, bad for business *don't you dare report bad behavior, concerns or give your bosses feedback, there will be retribution and you will be made to be the "problem"

    Advice to Management

*company has lost many talented, hard working, culture fit people, because of the cons listed above *get the weeds out of the garden *walk the walk, hold people accountable, especially people managers, sr. leadership and most importantly, the executive team *when employees come to you, for guidance, support or to raise an issue, listen and take the initiative to make a change for the better. choosing to ignore... the problem does not solve anything and managers who conduct themselves this way should not be in management handling people or in some cases, running a whole organization *nikesh and liane, fix the plumbing, we are counting on you!
