I worked at Palomar Community College part-time

    Pros

I worked with GEAR UP which is a tutoring program where they place us in local high schools to help our cohort students. I love it. It gave me an opportunity to tutor/advise students to achieve higher education. GU provides high school students multiple public or private universities field trips and many educational workshops encourage students to go to college.

    Cons

No raise in wages since it is grant funded program

I have been working at Palomar Community College part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I love my ESL students, so that's what keeps me there. My co-workers and boss are great.

    Cons

Only 20% of the faculty are full-time, so good luck getting a full-time job. I teach at night. After 10 years, I've realized there is no room for advancement, so I'm looking for another job in the private sector. Our raises do not even keep up with inflation. The only benefits we get are sick leave and the option to buy health insurance. Instructors are rarely asked their input. Administration stays in their ivory tower.

    Advice to Management

Address the inequities between part-time and full-time faculty. Treat us with respect.

I have been working at Palomar Community College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Best union in CA when it comes to education. Rediculiously good family benefits package. Awesome management - they advocate for their employees. Diverse staff and population of students. Veteran friendly for students and employees.

    Cons

Because the union is what it is some people that should be dismissed are still around and don't have a passion for the student.

I have been working at Palomar Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a good place if you value education in society. It's one of the bigger CC's in North County SD. Campus is nice, people are generally nice.

    Cons

Pay is limited, hours are limited, no benefits (which is pretty much expected). Might take a long time for advancement as full-time positions are scarce these days.

    Advice to Management

Management was pretty good. Happy to be a part of a college that seems to take things pretty easy yet got things done.
