I have been working at Palomar Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small hospital with many great coworkers, great patient population, some amazing physicans.

    Cons

Staffing is often messed up. Chief of surgery is a nightmare for nursing to work with. Management lacks leadership and communication skills . Some nurses display unprofessional behavior on a regular basis since it is a small comfortable place to work. There is never enough equipment to safely do your job. Technology is old and doesn't often work. Punitive punishment is often doled out for small things and puts self reporting and safe patient care at risk. Education is lacking and not cutting edge.

    Advice to Management

Staff safely and effectively, listen to nursing as we have our feet on the ground every day. Don't tolerate unprofessional behavior and don't engage in threatening rhetoric to get nursing to comply with your demands. Amp up educational opportunities to increase skill sets.

I have been working at Palomar Health as an intern

    Pros

The pathmaker internship is a great opportunity that lets me work alongside nurses and other caretakers. In addition, it is very flexible with its hours and it allows you to rotate to different floors on the hospital so I keep learning new things. Department Coordinators are also very understanding.

    Cons

The application process is a bit difficult to get through but it is very straight forward.
