I have been working at Panalpina full-time

    Pros

Because salary is hourly, you are compensated for overtime hours. Advancement within the company is encouraged, even if it means re-location to another city or country.

    Cons

    There is no Christmas bonus.

    I worked at Panalpina full-time

    Pros

Local management was very supportive, coworkers were great, and the salary wasn't bad.

    Cons

Corporate management was too centered on the bottom line and not concerned with the employee's welfare

    Advice to Management

If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Remember the people who actually do the work.

I worked at Panalpina (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The operational staff consisted of hard working, experienced employees, and several had dedicated many years to the company. There was a wealth of knowledge. Access to a variety of service contracts and preferred carriers. Adequate training tools are available for new employees.

    Cons

The company is now process + procedure driven, taking people and personalized service out of the equation. Too many layers of management that do not understand the actual operational process and the procedures. The regional management expectations were unrealistic which put a lot of pressure on the local management and staff. Operational staff does not feel appreciated and is grossly overworked. Too many operational systems, applications, and layers to accomplish even the most simplest task. Due to the layers of people, there is an internal struggle of responsibilities & accountability. The company has steered to a cookie-cutter approach to forwarding, disregarding what is best for each client. Many employees left in 2016, including most of the local management/sales. The company seems to have lost their identity and focus. Local management shows favoritism with a fraternity-like feel.

    Advice to Management

Build relationships with your clients again. Focus on and recognize the strengths of the employees. Reward and retain the employees who consistently step up to the plate. Ensure the appropriate training is applied based on the employee's level of experience. Remain professional and do not show favoritism. Pay attention to negative trends such as a substantial loss of talent when employees resign and address root cause local/regional management.

I have been working at Panalpina full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of hard working people, small office so is't not stuffy like corporate offices.

    Cons

No real teamwork, it's an every man for themselves environment. Of course some of that is because there is too much work and not enough people.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people and maybe they will be more motivated to do the work and not show up just because they need a pay check.

Good benefits, 401k, holiday etc. Some good people still left but many are gone now.

    Cons

Too many changes from ground level operations to corporate level. Outsourcing jobs overseas. Many challenges with internal systems and implementation of new processes.

    Advice to Management

Need to improve the implementation of new processes. Redirect attention on the customers, customer service and talent retention.
