I have been working at Panasas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Having been here for a year, I am impressed with the high calibre of the dedicated team, the quality of the product as evidenced by the top tier customers that entrust their core assets to the Panasas products, and vision the company has for its future.

    Cons

    None really to speak of.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

I have been working at Panasas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Panasas is a technology leader with a highly differentiated product and an awesome list of the most progressive companies in the world as customers.

    Cons

Panasaas is run as a lean organization where trade-offs and priorities are dynamic. The workload can be heavy but satisfying.

    Advice to Management

Stay focused on what's important to drive growth and success. Don't get confused by nay-sayers and shiny objects many times referred to as trends.

    Pros

The people! Wonderful co-workers. Friendly atmosphere.

    Cons

Using outdated software methodologies and tools. Want to update but its difficult and happening very slowly

    Advice to Management

Put thought and effort into modernizing the tools and the development process

I worked at Panasas (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some best engineers I ever seen

    Cons

    Some (now gone) dishonest managers.
    Horrible communication
HR and CEO is a major failure
All intellectual property being sold, the money spent on who-knows-what
    Layoffs, layoffs, layoffs

    Advice to Management

Few years ago it would be: "Lay off the CEO"
Now the company cannot be salvaged - they have no intellectual property left.
Probably the best advice would be: "be honest, at last - and look back at the shame you did!"

I worked at Panasas full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Long standing customers still holding the company together even though the product lost its market advantage years ago.

    Cons

Talent loss, outdated hardware design, more competitive options in HPC now than just a few years ago.

    Advice to Management

Re-focus on HPC and the market share you once had. Scale out customers do not benefit from a parallel file system.

I worked at Panasas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company has created a product that solves problems that other companies are still trying to solve
    Top notch engineers

    Cons

Management over the ages have not handled the product well
Architect and product management confused over direction of product
Bloated processes for a small company - insistence on perfect grammar and spacing in the docs to cite a few

    I worked at Panasas full-time

    Pros

There were a lot of smart people (engineers and QA) working hard to do good things for the company. Now they all left or no longer there. The remaining engineering team is just playing around to cash in the last paycheck

    Cons

Management is incompetent. The CFO joined only a few months and left. The executive team does not know how to lead and have no clue. They try to go into the Media, and Entertainment market but the product portfolio are so old to compete. For the last one year, there are not any new offering from Panasas. The parts in the storage appliance will be EOL-ed by Intel. They try to do a new server, but they will be a lot slower than the current one and will not able to release them due to no more capable engineers to work. There are any QA engineers left. They owe a lot of debt to vendors and don't plan to pay them. The company is running paycheck by paycheck. They are barely able to pay employees. They don't pay the phone bill, and the 1-800 support line even got shut down by the phone company. For the next three months, they plan to foreclosure the company and try not to pay any vendor's bill and don't have the capability to do any new product releases. They just attempt to fool the customers, investors and potential new buyers.

    Advice to Management

Try to do the good thing for the company and investors. Show integrity to the people.

    Pros

    - Good engineering talents
    - Interesting technology

    Cons

    - pNFS or directFLow a technology that has been passed over by the industry before it even got a chance.
    - Engineering management didn't know how to execute and be nimble

I have been working at Panasas full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small company but there is a lot of talent there, both in the management and executive ranks as well as in the technical roles. I learned a lot and really looked up to the management team.

    Cons

Dealing with employee attrition is tricky.. change in market focus is hard to achieve without full engineering buy in.

    Advice to Management

I don't have a crystal ball, but I would suggest putting more focus on the tactical short term product roadmap to really go after new markets rather than longer term stuff that won't benefit for some years.

    Pros

Engineers were friendly and easy to work with.

    Cons

    1. Executives and management are clueless and under-performing.
    2. Total system - Hardware+Software is outdated and lagging way behind the competition.
    3. Sudden changes in products, features etc.
    4. Massive lay-offs. Shutting down projects on which engineers have worked over a year.
    5. No money in bank makes everything risky.

    Advice to Management

Management/Executives never listen to any advice from both employees and customers. That is their biggest problem.
