Valuable work, toxic (they’ll call it unique) culture
Mar 10, 2023 - Manager in Rosemead, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The “fruit cart” mentality is 100% true at Panda. You will have a lot of responsibility and can really own your projects, learning a ton along the way. You can see the work that you do truly impact the company.
Cons
You’ll be watching your back the whole time while you’re working, since your movement up in the company 80% depends on how people perceive you and how much they like you, which depends on how much you divulge about yourself personally; 20% is your performance. I’ve never felt so judged in a work setting for choosing not to be in the in-crowd, for choosing to have a separation between my work life and personal life. If you work at Panda, get ready for that complete blend of work/personal/family, whether you like it or not. The emphasis on this trumps good/smart performance and work, which is frustrating when your work is stellar and is directly propelling the company forward, but you can’t progress since you aren’t going on vacations with your coworkers or sharing all of your vulnerabilities with them.

Pros
Panda Express was a great company to work for. When most people think of Panda Express they think of the orange chicken but for me, they helped me better my mindset and overall better my life through the training processes they have as well as the high quality of General Managers within Utah who most are genuinely passionate about helping the people they work with
Cons
Most of the ACO (Area Coach of Operations)team in Utah is amazing, however I did run into some issues with an ACO in the region regarding their way of being and creating connections with their direct/indirect reports.

-people are great -culture CAN be great but is very dependent on malleable personality
Cons
-slow moving pieces -leadership strong arm from way up top -culture can be suffocating if not meeting some needs/wants from the culture -interview process is strange, unlike any other company. long winded full of becoming malleable to company culture

Pros
Able to work many hours, company focuses on personal growth. It's a great job if you create boundaries and stick to them.
Cons
Hard labor, difficult to maintain work life balance as you try to move up in the company.
- Former Employee★★★★★
Not worth it unless you’re hardcore about their culture

Amenities and discounts are nice.
Cons
The fact that everybody start off as a temporary employee with no benefits is ridiculous. You have to basically do everything to get on the right side of and boot lick to upper management (most of which are very aloof) in order to go through the perming process which involves going to an out of pocket seminar called Landmark forum and various rigorous interviews which can take months in order to then have a final interview with the owners who then have the final say. This is the process to not only have basic employee benefits but also whenever you are being promoted. It can take up to or even more than a year. The landmark forum never goes away and you need to attend regularly as long as you work there and implement the lingo and teachings learned in your daily work life which seems like a cult.

Work Life Balance
Jul 26, 2022 - General Manager in Rosemead, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great Pay Benefits Financial Stability Bonus Programs Family Feel
Cons
Although pay and benefits are great, sometimes it feels like your life should only be Panda if you're trying to move up, and if you don't think that way, you need "personal development courses". Ive been there for quite sometime, and as much as I try to keep feeling the same inspiration I felt when I first got hired and got promoted, I can't help but just feel drained. Random Mandatory meetings that run through late night hours because we can't catch a break during work hours due to tight labor budget, High stress levels because of the Ecosure audit is hailed like some GOD and god forbid you get a 99% without being looked down upon and toxic favoritism. If you take an LOA for personal mental reasons, kinda feels like they turn their back on you.... Great pay, but I dont think its worth the no life part.
