I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Fast paced
    Friendly environment
    Free food
Always extra hours if your an hourly shift supervisor
    Usually room for upward mobility

    Cons

Corporate and upper franchise management set impossible standards for the store level management. It's hard to keep up with menial manager work on top of real work like doing the orders when there's barely enough associates to run the store. But then don't forget, there's a thousand other things to take care throughout the day, but usually I don't have the resources to properly deal with any situation. Finally, pay the managers adequately for the work they do. Don't skimp them on trivial amounts of money for raises.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your managers. Be in the stores more. Spend a whole shift there and see what it's really like.
And on a different note, realize that the salary managers work 45-50 hours a well, at least at my store. That's ten hours of over time we don't get paid for

I worked at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good upper management, benefits, 401k, good food. It was a good learning experience with audits and health codes. they are really on top of that, always!

    Cons

    Really, backbreaking work.
Management is in position all the time, making food or cashier. They hire young and pay crap so call outs are constant.
Bonuses are not great and hours leave little work/ life balance.

    Advice to Management

Pay and reward mgmt a little better, they work really hard for you.

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent food, coworkers are fun, constant communication with corporate to keep you informed

    Cons

Food is just okay, constant equipment issues, employee turnover high, expects far too much from employees for far too little pay, zero paid vacation for first year, only 2 sick days for first year

    Advice to Management

Reconsider your payscale. Encourage managers by giving paid vacation for the first year and a couple more sick days. Morale amongst management from what I've seen is often low and managers are exhausted.

  9. "Assistant Manager"

Current Employee - Assistant Manager in Kansas City, MO

    Pros

Great food and manager meals. Training is extensive with a year of learning how to manage food costs, labor and such. Good schedule.

    Cons

Archaic reports, too many reports filed daily, not enough autonomy, some unprofessional from the top down.

    Advice to Management

Update so higher ups can check reports on individual stores. Actually management training ie, books, workshops on how manage properly.
