I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast pace and many different jobs to oversee. Produce great food that you are proud to stand behind. (Nothing to hide behind the scenes) Always innovating providing great technology and systems to run a flawless shift. Majority of customers are well off. No “dollar menu” ;)

    Cons

Every so often there is a very rude customer that feels entitled to royalty service and you have to let dig into you because if you push back your name will be on the corporate complaint list the next day. That’s sometimes tuff. Having employees call off leaving you short handed can be very stressful trying to cover multiple positions yourself and be responsible for every other position.

    Advice to Management

Department heads could be more appreciative of management staff. I.E. taking managers out for a dinner or event. It would be nice to connect with other managers at other locations. Even once a year would make us feel more appreciated and more than likely keep them with the company longer ;) Individual store GMs do okay with functions within the store for associates. Be more transparent on the bonus system. This should be an email every period to management. If we didn’t bonus then how much did we miss by? More visits from area management is necessary. All management needs some form coaching, direction, and praise. A 5 min review once a year doesn’t cut it. Attempts are being made at this :)

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of young people to work with, Most of them are eager to learn. To bad they're promised jobs that they will never get

    Cons

Bunch of promises that will never become reality. Lack of ressources. People getting promoted to fill an empty spot. Be friendly to AOP's, you'll get promoted before you can blink. No need to be qualified. No work life balance as promised in the interviews. 70-80 hour work week

    Advice to Management

Stop being such sharks when your CEO is a such kind hearted man

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people you work with, 9/10 are great. Panera looks like a great place on paper. Checks all the boxes one would want in a work environment.

    Cons

Company is so busy trying be be ahead of the competition, they are not observing any problem areas to help the efficiency of their teams cafe to cafe. Panera Bread isn’t giving enough pay to their associates not to mention their management teams (Shift Supervisors, Assistant Managers, General Managers and District Managers), the crews in the cafes deal with more then they are getting paid for. Also keep in mind this is a year or two after they have raised pay caps. You will get the usual customer service hardships but that is in any type of customer service job. The cons are strictly with the company and how it’s started to run in the past 5 years.

    Advice to Management

My advice to upper management, appreciate and understand what your management teams and associates go through trying to make your plans come to life. Recognize when there is a problem in a cafe (such as size or lack of associates) and help those cafes. Shrugging shoulders and taking short cuts is not what Panera Bread was founded on. Speaking of one of Panera’s rules of “No Shortcuts” how about the one about “No Jerks”, Panera’s upper management has seemed to forget, the rules it puts into place for associates, apply to them as well.

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very busy atmosphere, very energetic, ability to make guests day.

    Cons

Many hats to wear, constantly juggling and multitasking with limited time

    Advice to Management

Take a day to be in the life of a manager, it would give you a better understanding of where managers struggle.

    Pros

    Close early than other places

    Cons

Is franchise so they very tight in payment increases

    Advice to Management

Is a lot of hands on more than just management. During low season is only managers working no associates to save labor.

I have been working at Panera Bread (More than a year)

    Pros

More daylight foodservice working hours, as opposed to nights

    Cons

Upward mobility is too reckless, some individuals are not prepared for their role

    Advice to Management

Sales outlets are too diverse even though less sales are usually unwise. Marginally better sales, yes, but at the cost of product quality and company appearance. New drivers are slightly uncompensated. Overall, still great company!
