I worked at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great selection of food. Discount on lunch breaks. Left over pastries are donated at the end of the night. Healthy selection. Fresh bread baked daily. Great company values.

    Cons

Didn't hold employees accountable for their actions including tardiness or for not showing up. Not a lot of internal promotions. Management team not always on the same page with each other at several locations.

    Advice to Management

Better organization needed when it comes to balancing catering orders and customer orders. Please hold your employees more accountable for their actions to help create a less stressful working environment

    Pros

The discount on food during my shifts is pretty nice and I am fond of some of my coworkers and most of my customers

    Cons

The management is inept and corporate regulations are ridiculous. Just a little while ago we were all shown a video about food safety that says that if we are sick, we should call out and our managers will cover our shift because it is dangerous to come to work sick when you might be contagious. I called out because I had been up half the night with a low grade fever and nausea and diarrhea, knowing that I couldn't come to work and all my manager could say is that if I wasn't coming in, I had to go to the doctor and get a note. They've been cutting my hours lately so I can't even really afford to go to the doctor for something like this. Working at Panera has been so demoralizing... I've been with the company for almost a year and I don't know how much more I can take.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and use a little common sense. When an employee is sick, don't make things worse by making it almost impossible to miss work. Also, if an employee tells you they need hours desperately, don't say you'll give them hours, keep the promise for two weeks and then go back to giving them two or three short shifts for the whole week.

    Pros

Panera is a great place to start a career in food service. They care about their brand without sacrificing their employees' quality of life.

    Cons

In the past couple of years the focus has been more on the guest, which is good, but in order to achieve some of that they did away with some programs that were beneficial to their team--especially the bakers.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget the bakers. They work VERY hard for you and don't get enough respect in return.
