I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Panera is one of the faster-growing companies in the stock market at the moment. Investing in Panera is a pro.
Relatively organized website to view your own employee information (payslips, tax documents, coupons, etc.)

    Cons

Like every other food service restaurant, most places can be described as mismanaged with a general lack of communication and sense of teamwork. But if you want better workers, pay them better,

    Advice to Management

If you want better workers, either bump up current, hard-working employee's hourly rates, or simply hire better workers.

I worked at Panera Bread part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Flexible hours as a high school student
-The food was good and the discount was okay.
-They had a good training system.
-As you became trained in more areas of the cafe, you would get a small raise.

    Cons

    -Very understaffed
    -No tips
-The franchise was cheap and they raised prices which upset the customers.
-Closers had too much work since the place was understaffed.
-The managers often disagreed on ways employees were suppose to do things which was confusing at times.
-It was a revolving door for employees and management. The GM was switched three times while I was there.

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Fast paced
    Friendly environment
    Free food
Always extra hours if your an hourly shift supervisor
    Usually room for upward mobility

    Cons

Corporate and upper franchise management set impossible standards for the store level management. It's hard to keep up with menial manager work on top of real work like doing the orders when there's barely enough associates to run the store. But then don't forget, there's a thousand other things to take care throughout the day, but usually I don't have the resources to properly deal with any situation. Finally, pay the managers adequately for the work they do. Don't skimp them on trivial amounts of money for raises.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your managers. Be in the stores more. Spend a whole shift there and see what it's really like.
And on a different note, realize that the salary managers work 45-50 hours a well, at least at my store. That's ten hours of over time we don't get paid for

I worked at Panera Bread part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was given opening shifts so I had to be there at 5:30 am which was not the most fun. Management was fair though they understood the importance of balancing school and work.

    Cons

The customers were ridiculous at times. They were highly demanding for a restaurant of that style. There were times when more employees were needed on shift to accommodate the rushes.

    Advice to Management

Be more mindful of busy times and have more people work. The company is doing well so I imagine there is plenty of wiggle room to add to the labor budget.

I worked at Panera Bread (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice and friendly associates, coffee, decent wages

    Cons

Disorganized management, stressful environment, care more about ticket times than quality or happiness of employees, understaffed

    Advice to Management

Train management from within instead of hiring from outside, have managers work on line until comfortable and able to keep up with other associates,

I worked at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Fast paced, flexible management

Days usually go by quickly. The staff is very close knit, despite the expected amount of drama. Managers are easy to talk to and usually respond well to comments or criticism. Discount on food during your shift.

    Cons

    Low pay, inconsistent hours

As in most restaurants, the pay is low and you are generally not allowed to take tips (well, it is frowned upon, you're asked to direct customers to put the tip in the food bank jar). Some people had issues getting the number of hours they wanted, but generally schedules were made with effort and skill in mind.

    Advice to Management

Try to resist (or at least hide) having "favorite" employees. It becomes easy to point out who is and who isn't favored and puts unnecessary pressure on your team.
