It's a better experience than working for fast food, the company does a great job training it's employees, and keeping up with the training.

Some of the procedures of doing things are a bit ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

Work on more effective way of setting lines up and prepping/preparing food.

I worked at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Always working, discounted food, stock purchase plans and 401(k) benefits, medical and life benefits (some of which are inherent with hire). Most Panera's I know are popular and serve customers frequently, if you're at a busy one you'll end up sweating if the prepwork is not completed prior to your shift. My manager was always available to talk to for stressful conflicts or encouraged promotion opportunities. Occasional "Bread Bashes" end up as work paid meetings that are boring but include free food and information on upcoming menu changes. Thorough training regiments and POF's ensure that you won't be confused. Transferring is also made easy, and if you leave off on a good note, you can almost snap your fingers for your job back. Also they typically a significant amount higher than typical fast food or chain restaurants. It was a company that cared about all facets at least to some extent and would even hold contests on suggested efficient employee ideas that could result in prizes or compensation. In the end its a classy fast food joint that you'll get sick of because of how much food you eat but you'll make friends and have a company that'll care about you more than the other chains, without a doubt.

    Cons

Occasionally overworked, understaffing can lead to more stressed work areas or avoidance of management suggests cleaning tasks/regulations, and always busy.

    Advice to Management

Embrace the company, smile to employees, and staff one extra person than you think you'll need.

I have been working at Panera Bread part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discount and coworkers are really nice. Really feels like a family environment, even as someone who doesn't interact much with the others.

    Cons

Very challenging to get any hours and they vary too great. I can go from 23 hrs one week to 8 hrs the next, depending on the schedule. Schedule is done weekly and that can be stressful too. Also the hours in the summer are horrible.

    Advice to Management

Let more folks work ful time?

I worked at Panera Bread full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Food, Great Staff, Potential for young employees

    Cons

Way too much focus on creating profit through minimizing labor costs.
Each cafe is designed from a cookie-cutter model and it does not work in all locations.
Constantly drained from being over-worked for a sub-par salary.

    Advice to Management

Lung and dinner rushes are stressful so having sides ready to plate is helpful

I worked at Panera Bread part-time

    Pros

Everyone is very hard-working. Corporate catering is very demanding.

    Cons

Some of the management staff was nice. My experience was overshadowed by some very abusive managers. One even threatened the drivers about their jobs from the screaming and yelling comments from the office to the staging areas. I've even found some of them giving me some very dirty looks. Morale, particularly of the drivers, is very poor.

    Advice to Management

Training managers to become managers. Encourage employees rather than beat them down. Top manager needs to control of management.
