I worked at Panera Bread as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked in enterprise data wearhouse, Employees got control of their work, no micromanagement. Free bread.

    Cons

Testing, validation rather ad-hoc, wastes too much time re-inventing wheel.

    Advice to Management

Do more to put release management best practices in place.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Schedule workers based off their availability not when you think you will need them the most

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The only thing that gets you through the day is the relationships you develop with your co-workers and even a lot of the customers.

    Cons

Once you filter through the flower-y language about integrity and respect, you start to realize this is just a business who's main priority is making money. Nothing says good experience like inundating customers with ads or questions or welcoming them to order using an iPad when the line is long. The company is very good at finding new ways of getting more blood from the same stone. Lately, when they're hiring someone to fill a position (management or otherwise) they're standards have shifted. They focus on people who are merely nice and interview well. Whether or not they can actually work is a different story. It is very easy to look around and see who actually knows what they're doing and who's ill-equipped/unwilling to help/pull their own weight. They will unfairly lean more on the employees who already work hard, letting the warm bodies skirt by with bad habits rather than investing time and effort to fix issues in the cafes. But hey, as long as they're nice (not jerks), and the company is making money, everything is wonderful, right?

    Advice to Management

Seriously? Do they even look at this portion? Seems to me every time there's a problem, they say everything is great. Who am I to argue?

Great customers always make my day. Fast paced never bored

    Cons

NO WORK LIFE BALANCE AT ALL

I worked at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great People, from upper management to cashiers, you'll make friends. Opportunity for career advancement. I loved all my bosses

    Cons

Panera has been losing its direction lately. What I saw in the beginning, and what I saw at the end, were two different mantras of how to operate. They used to be one of the better paying companies for entry level staff and employees. Now they are behind most fast food.

    Advice to Management

    Communicate with honesty and transparency.

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Other employees, schedule, ease of everything

    Cons

No growth opportunity, no real chance for in depth learning, no creative outlet

    Advice to Management

Honestly, there isn't much they can do. They can definitely help foster a learning environment. Other than that, most of this is at the corporate level.

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Get feedback on how you are doing on a regular bases. They do help you improve when mistakes are made.

    Cons

Pay could be better. Company doesn't give traditional raises. It is a "cost of living increase" - but it is tied to how well you do on your review.

    Advice to Management

Company needs to pay the people in customer care better. We are poorly paid an are regularly asked to do more & more but with no additional pay.
