I have been working at Papé Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have a good corporate support structure.
They also give you a company vehicle to use on and off work for a small charge.
They do also equip you very nicely to do your job. ie: laptop, aircard, ipad, extremely nice printer etc

    Cons

Not enough management at the local branch level. They mainly only use 2 managers for the branch.
There is sometimes quite a bit of disconnect between departments.
They should put TM's on a Base plus commission. instead of a draw

    Advice to Management

Add more management to your branch structure.
TM's should be a true base salary plus commission, that way when they sell they can feel motivated instead of having to sell 60-80K before they ever see a penny over the draw.

"Management Trainee Program is a waste of time for college grads"

I worked at Papé Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Aggressive growth model for acquiring new businesses. John Deere is a respected and stable player in the heavy equipment industry. Pape's market share increases with every year, and if you read below, you'll see why this is the only goal they have on their radar.

    Cons

If you're being recruited from a college campus for a Pape Management Trainee Program position in the Seattle Region, don't waste your time on this company. They may claim that this program will utilize and expand your skills as a college grad with a science/engineering background, but you'll soon learn this is nothing more than a sales pitch.

If you have good to even decent grades, mechanical aptitude, and any amount of confidence in your ability, go the extra mile and look elsewhere for your first job out of school. The base salary (not hourly and no overtime) will not increase, and many trainees are drug on for years with absolutely no increase for cost of living, inflation, etc. The actual "management" positions are far fewer that they'll admit; many trainees work for years only to end up in an entry-level sales position.

Also, if you're the least bit tech savvy, this company is not for you. They are married to an in-house developed MS DOS business system with ... you guessed it, a MS DOS UI. Working here was like stepping back into the 1980's with regard to technology. Teams of people at IT are constantly developing band-aids and work-arounds to keep their antiquated computer program limping along.

To sum it up, management in the Seattle Region as a whole, has a proven track record of being largely ineffective mentors for ambitious college grads.

    Advice to Management

If you're hell-bent on keeping the Management Trainee Program alive, and reducing the ridiculously high attrition rate, consider who you're putting in place to mentor the newest management-bound members. Seattle Region mid through upper management is renowned throughout the company as being insincere, self-absorbed, and above criticism on any level. It's a huge turn off and red flag for anyone coming into the company, and it's only a matter of time before your reputation within WA college campuses spreads, and support/recruitment fades. Many of us who have left still keep up with each other, and with our former college professors. To date, we all have found better paying jobs with more respectable and capable management.

    Pros

The actual employees and workers are great!!

    Cons

    Management SUCKS!
Corporate is a joke! We pay a crazy amount for health benefits for a company this size and we get nothing back in return. Our health benefits suck!
They will wine/dine people in schools and get them sucked in, only to find out that this is not where they want to be.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like you want to be treated!
Supervisors and managers do nothing all day. Its an embarrassment to see them sitting back playing on their phones or just chatting it up with each other while everyone else is actually working
