I worked at Paperchase Products part-time

    Pros

Staff discount Other sales assistants are lovely Good colleague culture at sales level Opportunity for managerial progression (although I wouldn't want it here)

    Cons

Toxic management - your day would be determined by the mood of those in management, and if they were in a bad mood, everyone was in a bad mood. It's like treading on eggshells. Favouritism. Rubbish wages - you'd think such a huge franchise would care more about paying the people who work for them.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone equally, don't take your bad moods out on your staff who are doing all of the hard work for below minimum wage.

  4. "The reality of paperchase"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Paperchase Products

    Pros

    • Good staff discount: 50% off most things • Uniform is very relaxed

    Cons

    • Unreasonably low wage! Nearly minimum wage for sales assistants. No extra pay for London employees either... • Often long hours with unpaid breaks • Management often fault your flaws and fail to refinish good effort • Head Office seem to only care about you issuing loyalty cards and not the service you provide • Everything seems very sloppy and slow: handing out rota shifts...

    Advice to Management

Simply put, pay your workers more. Even just a small amount. I’ve worked for paperchase for just over a year and see 1 management, 4 supervisor and 7 sales assistant positions leave because they felt undervalued. It meant I had to train new staff and problems arose because of having a team of newly trained staff. My colleagues often feel their job has no value or impact on the business and that despite outstanding efforts,...

I worked at Paperchase Products part-time for more than a year

    Pros

50% staff discount Relatively easy work Didn't ever 'take work home' with me Can offer very flexible shift patterns for university students

    Cons

Bullying management Unrealistic targets (especially loyalty card sign ups!) that managers didn't even meet. But if we didn't meet them we'd never hear the end of it. No real training - would be asked to do something, and then get told off for doing it wrong, despite not being shown how to do it in the first place Very low pay - minimum wage for sales assistants and barely...

    Advice to Management

STOP BULLYING YOUR STAFF!! I've had sales assistants crying in front of me before due to not meeting these stupid targets and being worried about the repurcussions.

I have been working at Paperchase Products part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The teams are always great. the customers are nice and it is generally a nice environment to be in.

    Cons

The higher management are work shy. Assistant managers specifically. They rely too heavily on overtime. The pay is not good. There is a lot of talk about one team one dream but they don't care about you. when you are a sales assistant you are just a black shirt that makes them money and there is no chance of progression. They'd rather hire someone from the outside than give a chance to someone who has put in the time....

Thanks for your feedback. We do have lots of stores that promote from within their teams regularly and managements teams who really value their teams contribution, including those on 4 hr contracts. So Area Managers will want to hear where this is not happening in the stores in ...

I have been working at Paperchase Products for more than a year

    Pros

    - easy application process as high turnover means they will accept anyone as understaffed

    Cons

    - lack of management = pressure for sales assistant to do more than they are getting paid for - lack of breaks - was never paid for missed holidays - was never paid for overtime when kept hours behind

Hi - were sorry you have had such a negative experience. Its quite unusual not to have been paid for holiday accrued or planned overtime. Did you try to contact Payroll or HR to resolve this?

  8. "Let down at the end"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Sales Assistant in Manchester, England

I worked at Paperchase Products for less than a year

    Pros

Fellow sales assistants were incredibly friendly and supportive even at such a busy period.

    Cons

Towards the end my contract i wasn't told properly or professionally what the process would be. For example how my last pay slip would reach to me. I applied for a permanent position after being a Christmas temp but i wasn't told clearly whether i had been taken on.

I have been working at Paperchase Products part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    • well paid (but changing very soon...) • Area managers supportive to sales assistants/supervisors/all employees • shifts are never longer than 9 hours • Mostly sociable working hours • amazing employee discount • discount on expensive underglass products

    Cons

    • I do early morning deliveries and am worked considerably harder than other employees • often not given 11 hours between leaving and starting work • can be rota'd into work for 7+ days straight without a rest day • some HR employeees were rude and unapproachable when contacted • head office often make changes that make running the store more difficult than it needs to be • a day in work is mostly stressful, line...

    Advice to Management

    • Ensure all line managers are fully capable of leading a team and setting fair shifts • more praise and recognition for employees • allocate a fair amount of hours to be distributed between each store. Less hours in a week = dissatisfied and miserable staff, I'm either worked to death or have no shifts. No in between

I have been working at Paperchase Products

    Pros

50% discount for staff Constant New products Friendly floor staff and sales assistant morale

    Cons

Management have no sympathy Head office is run in a very unfair way to lower staff Low pay rate for sales assistants

    Advice to Management

Management were very hurtful to me when I had to take time off, I was told off for socialising outside of work hours despite it having no effect on my work performance. Head office were of no help when I felt victimised by my management team and despite being told I was a "vital part of the team and a team leader" I was denied three promotions over the 20 month period of employment
