I have been working at Paragon Bioservices full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Paragon has been in a growth phase which is great for the company; we have a steady stream of projects to keep everyone productive. Shout out to the Business Development team for all their hard work, building relationships with clients that last!

HR and Management have instituted an annual performance review and rewards program for employees. We also hold monthly celebrations for birthdays & anniversaries as a thank-you for employees, which is a great time to connect with other employees in the company.

We also have the opportunity to attend events at the University of Maryland BioPark, such as Science in the City (a once a month evening networking event) and Women in Bio (an organization of professionals committed to promoting careers, leadership, and entrepreneurship for women in the life sciences). These gatherings are no cost to the employees and provide valuable experiences.

It feels great to work for a company with such a clear vision for what they want to do for global health. There are SO many other problems in the world; health shouldn't be one of them. I have been afforded this fantastic opportunity to work for a company that is a problem solver in the life science industry, and who wouldn't love to be a part of the solution?

Our Lunch & Learn programs are one of my favorite perks of the job! They allow for employees throughout the company (from lab to administration) to understand what it is that Paragon is trying to accomplish for each project in the pipeline. For that reason, Paragon is much more than just a job, but a meaningful career choice.

The TLDR of it all; It is a fantastic company, and if you come to work with an open mind, and a desire to make an impact on the world, you will be pleased with the work you can accomplish here!

    Cons

Scheduling a meeting can be difficult due to limited private meeting room space, but we are rolling out new tech to help with that. Employees should be able to cut down on some emails and communicate more efficiently on our internal portal. Yammer will be a vital tool in the upcoming year!

Sometimes when a company is in a growth phase, they are so focused on bringing in more talent, the existing employee pool may feel like they are being spread thin, but HR is working hard to screen and hire as many quality employees that they can, providing a smoother transition in the growth. Sometimes, you just need to trust the process. Keep calm & carry on!

    Advice to Management

Be open-minded. Sometimes the best advice, ideas, and inspiration come from unlikely sources. Employees may get motivated in unexpected ways, and recognition for employees can be as simple as acknowledging people for a job well done!

Survey your employees regularly and prompt them for suggestions, as sometimes people are too timid to speak up! It is about creating a culture that thrives on transparency.

I have been working at Paragon Bioservices full-time

    Pros

They are serious about improving the company. Paid bonus once.

    Cons

Paragon struggles with many issues: office space and storage are real problems around here. Parking is very expensive and the garage is situated in a dangerous neighborhood. Several new departments are being created in a very short period of time what results in a title inflation at the higher management level, e.g. it is common to see a VP person at the department made of 2-3 employees. Favoritism is pervasive and you need to align yourself wisely if you hope for any sort of recognition - don't hope for any raise based on merit.

    Cons

    Horrible place to work for!

    Advice to Management

No matter what advice you are giving, it means nothing to management there. This place is a favoritism and politics business.

I worked at Paragon Bioservices full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good place to learn and move on. Not a long term employer. Did pay out a bonus once.

    Cons

Where to start? Company has had several major contaminations. "GMP" paperwork isn't being filled out as work is being done which would get someone fired elsewhere. Some departments allow their employees to do the bare minimum and work five hour days while others expect you to work 10 hour days. Discrimination has occurred is some depts. Employees are spread out on every floor with offices in closets and ten people to a closet. The "safety dept" is more concerned with lab coats than following up on reported safety concerns. A career ladder was created but upper management cannot explain what separates the levels within their own dept so the titles don't mean anything.

    Advice to Management

Don't say you have an open door policy if you aren't willing to hear your employees out. Follow up on reported incidents.

I have been working at Paragon Bioservices full-time

    Pros

Paragon is willing to pay above market to get people into the door.

    Cons

Antiquated systems, equipment, and values. I will focus on the latter. Although they say they follow the science...they really follow the dollar, literally. They commit to projects although they do not have the properly trained staff to fulfill these obligations. They are expecting people who grew up in the industry since the 20th century to operate with systems from the 19th century ( really photocopy batch records ??). The professionalism of the HR department has alot to be desired( i.e. incorrect interview dates, unable to provide accurate information...and the list goes on). This company is a last ditch effort if you are let go from any reputable organization. I would not even recommend it for entry level there systems are so old if you go anywhere else you will be laughed out the door for even thinking you qualify. If you are truly talented and want to make a difference....stay away.

    Advice to Management

Wake up....there are so any tools you are not utilizing to improve your company (i.e. a back up generator ) OMG....common sense tells you you should have one after ughhh 3 power interuptions. Get it together please we truly have an obligation to humanity jist not the linning in our pockets.

    Cons

Senior management does not listen to employees, has unrealistic image of the inner workings of the company.

    Advice to Management

Listen to advice and insights from employees working at the bench or in mid-level management to make better decisions and avoid unrealistic expectations.

I have been working at Paragon Bioservices (More than a year)

    Pros

Company is growing rapidly. Expanding opportunities as company is under rapid growth. Collegial work environment. Interesting work, contributes to human good.

    Cons

Located in Baltimore, long and awful commute. Because of growth rate, finding space is awkward. Also, because we're growing from small to big, a lot of processes are changing. If change is awkward for you, you might be better off at a more stable place like the monitor of dams and geologic formations.

    Advice to Management

    Hang in. Keep working hard!

FWIW, Marco is a very great guy, but he is no longer involved at Paragon. HR might want to update GlassDoor.

    Pros

CMO in a strong growth phase! Good people who care about their job and what we do here

    Cons

Transition from small privately held CMO to a company with the capacity and talent to work with the big boys of BioPharma.

    Advice to Management

Listen to Managers and Leaders who know CMO business. Understand and define department role and responsibilities.
