Moving in the right direction for innovation. Highly motivated employees with a breadth of knowledge. Very friendly and fun place to work.. Very fast paced allowing you to learn new things every day. A great place to work to build your career and resume!

There are a few legacy and cultural challenges that exist but those are improving every day.

I have been working at Parallels full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced, opportunity to make an immediate impact, global accountability and scope for most roles, and opportunities for growth

    Cons

The story of company is difficult because of the two very different lines of business. Consumer business outlook is great! The Cloud business has most potential but also more difficult to deliver.

    Advice to Management

Must create and share a clear vision of where the company is going and how people can contribute

"Two cultures (Russian/US) not always in Sync, management directionally challenged and top heavy"

I have been working at Parallels full-time

    Pros

Thankfully not overly matrixed. Pay/benefits is better than most organizations of this size. Work/life balance fairly balanced with no expectation of ongoing weekend work.

    Cons

Two cultures (Russian/US) with Russian culture favored. Leadership vision/direction/mandate doesn't filter down. Management is top heavy - the amount of VP's, Directors and Managers is extraordinary. Company is reactive vs. proactive in strategy.

    Advice to Management

Be the leader in the industry (Cloud side of the business). Sell the Cross Platform side.

I worked at Parallels full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good opportunity to learn new skills and get international experience. Some good people there and a fairly relaxed atmosphere around review process.

    Cons

Too many different businesses and technologies to have focus. Lack of vision from leadership leaves people wondering where the company is heading. General culture is depressing and dysfunctional.

    Advice to Management

Time to cut your losses and move on.

"One of the better environments I've worked in"

    Pros

Pays well, good benefits, very fun work environment, lots of perks, work from home, some fun business travel (role dependent). You're not just a number, your ideas matter, and there is plenty of opportunity to move up, sideways, or whatever direction you'd like to go. Work/Life balance is as good as it gets.

    Cons

A bit disorganized, a little top heavy, almost nothing happens quickly, and training could be better. If you want something to get done in a hurry, you have to push. If you're not a self starter and need hand holding, there are probably better companies for you out there than Parallels. For me, this place is a great fit.

    Advice to Management

Most of the improvements that could be made are already in progress...management is pretty on the ball with that stuff.

I have been working at Parallels full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible working/remote options, decent health insurance, small 401k match, some down-to-earth coworkers, frequent promotions for go-getters, occasional parties/happy hour, stocked kitchen for snacks and breakfast

    Cons

Below average salary for US employees (who aren't former Microsoft), offices based in Renton, no investment in infrastructure so all projects take a long time and have to be started from scratch, most projects fizzle out or lose steam because of constant redirection/randomization from senior leadership, CEO likes to provide uninformed guidance, the company brand has no sense of humor/tries to base it's persona on a stale/serious corporate image stuck in the past (think Microsoft again) rather than keeping up with the current trend in tech of valuing individual contribution and *fun* innovation.

    Advice to Management

Have a sense of humor, stop trying to be like the tech giants of the past and carve your own way. Move the offices to a real city. Pay competitively. Invest in better infrastructure. Refine the company/product focus and stick to a plan.

    Pros

In my short time with Parallels, I work with a motivated, positive, realistic group of people who truly want to solve problems and increase profitability and efficiencies.

    Cons

As with most Tech companies, the developers of the product are much removed socially from the supporting teams.
