I worked at Parker Drilling full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Parker Drilling is a strong company to work for because they invest into the training and growth of employees. The management showed interest in the concerns of each team member. My first week with the company, a high level manager took the time to train me in Microsoft Outlook because I expressed a weakness in that program.

    Cons

I cannot think of any cons to working for Parker Drilling. I observed that some of the company working procedures were not documented. This can be a con because it makes it difficult to learn the process as a new employee, however, it also allows for the procedure to be flexible in case room is needed for improvement.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in the development of the documentation department as you have done. During my time with Parker Drilling I noticed significant improvement in this area while working with vendors and establishing the Parker Drilling requirements for document transmittal.

    Pros

Great location between the Galleria and Downtown. Work life balance is pretty good depending on the department you work for.

    Cons

No clear vision for the future. Executive management is detached and the small-company culture that used to be there has been gutted and replaced with a more sterile, numbers culture. When over 50% of the employees have been with Parker for less than 3 years, you know something is amiss.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your people, which should be easier now that the company has been gutted from several rounds of layoffs.

    Pros

Good hourly rate. That's about it, I'm only writing this to hit the 20 word minimum.

    Cons

Bad management, poor structure, information didn't flow freely

    Advice to Management

Be more hands on, and transparent

    "Old Regime Parker Drilling"

    Pros

Nice pay and nice benefits. There are some strong leaders.

    Cons

If you are not part of the old or current Regime you will probably be harassed, cussed, slandered and lied to about your future with the company. The people in the Corporate Office think field level personnel work for them. The older employees know how to milk things and drag things on.

    Advice to Management

Parker could be a powerhouse Rig Drilling Contractor but old habits will never die.

    Pros

I've been in the oilfield for over 30 years. I have lived through the down turns since the early 80's. I have no resentment to management for the steps they had to take. Just wish it wasn't me, just like everyone else let go on the first and second rounds.
If management keeps the current work philosophy PKD will be a great company to work with for years to come.

    Cons

Top heavy on the executive leadership level.

    Pros

The pay is good. There are free snacks in the break room.

    Cons

There are many issues with management and when taken to HR, nothing is done. The money is good but the stress is not worth it. The turnover rate is really high. Most people leave when they can.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees more and fix problems that are obviously impacting your employees.
