I worked at Parkhouse Providence Pointe part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I loved the patients!!! The views of beautiful rolling hills that you see out of every single window are also unbeatable. They had a free deli lunch and salad bar every day, too, which was great. Many of the staff are quite nice. Everybody is friendly in the hallways. They train CNA's there for free.

    Cons

It is now a privately owned company, instead of being county-run. Many changes were being put into place when I worked there last year, and a lot of the long-time employees were really unhappy about them. They are also not offering hours to their newly trained CNA's (except every other weekend, two shifts).

The LPN's there were at best, stuck-up to their Aides. At worst, they were really mean and disrespectful...why you would treat your nurse aides like that is beyond me, but they sure do. And they get away with it. So be aware of that if you are a CNA looking to work there (not that you will get hired, because they don't have any hours to offer, although they are always short on CNA's).

    Advice to Management

Offer more hours to CNA's, and treat them well. Make sure your nurses are treating them with respect----they are the primary caretakers of your paying patients!!! Use some common sense, please.

    Pros

Very rigid in their rules and policies, you know what is expected of you so you'll be ok if you can follow them to the t

    Cons

Favoritism is everywhere and if you and another person were applying for the same job, what it comes down to is who is friends with the person doing the hiring.

    Advice to Management

Work a shift on the units, not in your cushy offices and take a step back and see that, yes, the amount of work you keep piling on us is quite impossible to do without cutting corners

I worked at Parkhouse Providence Pointe full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This facility allows you to grow as a professional; offering continuing education classes for their nurses, tuition re-imbursement, and/or CNA & LPN certifications...while you work.

    Cons

As with any LTC facility and nursing, the work is physically exhausting. You work many days understaffed, and long hours. Management is poor alot of the time, but everyone works together to get done what needs to be done.

    Advice to Management

Nurse managers should be on their own floors (as staff nurses) more often to lessen that knowledge gap of their own patients; so in-turn nurses will not have to go so understaffed when they are needed on the floor.
