I worked at Parkson Corporation full-time

    Pros

Worked in engineering. Good leadership and training. Team environment.

    Cons

Constantly had to account for every minute of your day to charge to certain jobs...just annoying but not difficult

I worked at Parkson Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Atmosphere, products and location are great. The engineers with many years of experience are good people. The building is state of the art.

    Cons

Salaries are below average and the new management lacks experience. There is a schism between the engineers and new management with regard to products, process and EHS.

HR and CEO are making concerted effort to improve moral; however, the problem is that there are inexperienced managers operating (micromanaging) outside of their disciplines.

    Advice to Management

They should hire experienced mangers from within or do away with the old hierarchy approach. The managers should be tested on their understanding of the process and their knowledge in the specific disciplines they are managing. There should also be an ethics evaluation concerning EHS issues.

I have been working at Parkson Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice office and location in South Florida.. You will get useful experience here if you choose to take it on. Company gym onsite in a LEED Building.

    Cons

Engineers are lowest on the totem pole here, they get no respect and are never rewarded for going above and beyond (even when asked), but are required to do everything. Employees can be very back stabbing, beware. Upper management is completely unstable and with four major layoffs in the past few years, everyone was on edge and morale was the worst I had ever seen...anywhere. "Project Managers" here are not real project managers, just office people that have been around for 8+ years and/or benefited from nepotism. If you are young and talented, run away. Do not waste your time unless you just need experience.

    Advice to Management

Quit letting talent walk away because of non-recognition, non-promotion, and non-raises. You have a long track record of rewarding the wrong people.

I worked at Parkson Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great city to live. I enjoyed the weather and the beaches, nice people in Fort Lauderdale area.
If you want to experiment working in this industry and living there for a year or two, this can be a good choice.
    People are collaborative and welcoming.
Good benefits and opportunity to take on a project for a couple of years.

    Cons

There were lots o changes in management recently and it is uncertain what is the future of the company.
If you are not an MBA the potential to get a higher management roles are very low.
Technical expertise is not valued as much as business, which is a very narrow perspective that has lead to the shrinkage of the company.
Most of people with experience are retiring or leave the company, reducing tremendously knowledge capital for Parkson.

    Advice to Management

Reduce uncertainty about company's future by keeping open meetings with realistic results. Too much optimism has been the cause of current demotivation among employees.
Promotion of recent hires with low technical expertise justified only b/c of MBA degree has a large impact on current employees, increasing the uncertainty and trust on Parkson. Gives the perspective that there is no professional development within Parkson.

I worked at Parkson Corporation full-time

    Pros

Good company to work for 2 to 3 years. You gain a lot of experience within those periods,

    Cons

Due to poor budget and forecasting by management, organization structure is changed every 6 months. High employee turnover. Management has short term focus. Unlike other corporations, a whole year seems long term here. You are bound to be moved around performing different roles and may have to wear different hats at times. The company has lost transparency under new management where information is not freely shared leaving employees clueless about the performance and sometime their job duties. As a result, employees seem to have low morale and self-esteem.

    Advice to Management

Focusing on short term goals such as profitability and shareholder's ROI will lead to worse long term implications. Try to keep employees (whatever are left) happy, will lead to better performance. It's simple cause and effect relation. Learn from corporations like Southwest Airlines, Boston Consulting Group etc. where employees and customers are prime focus for wellbeing.

I worked at Parkson Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Parkson is privately held as a tiny part of a giant conglomerate, so one would expect long-term thinking with little emphasis on the short term numbers. Sales force is skilled.

    Cons

Contrary to the typical tendencies of privately held companies, Parkson is tied very closely to the short term numbers. The result is inconsistent and out-of-touch management, with poor treatment of employees and customers. Management's approach is to manipulate both the numbers and the employees - a recipe for a downward spiral. You can fool some of the people all the time .....

    Advice to Management

Accept that past practices have been a failure and change gears completely, moving to strategic thinking, planning and management. Get rid of dinosaurs. Adopt leadership rather than manipulation - trust your people.

I worked at Parkson Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very family oriented business that treats its employees very ethically and fairly.

    Cons

Limited or inconsistent chance for advancement where more responsibility is not always rewarded. Lots of personnel turnover in the past few years - most with little positive effect.
The biggest challenge is that the company's technology portfolio doesn't really offer a clear future for the company or its employees.

    Advice to Management

The company needs to expand its technologies to create more opportunities for its future and that of its employees. The company also needs to be more consistent in accepting and following through on the bringing new ideas into the company.

    Pros

good people to work with and an excellent atmosphere. the place has alot to offer as far as potential growth and promotion.
