I have been working at Parsely

    Pros

The business model was also a big motivator for me. Parse.ly offers a web analytics service that isn't dependent on selling personal data (it's all anonymized, and can't be distributed to third parties). Given the mess that is the Internet in 2018, it's crucial that we find ways to allow web publishers to understand content performance while not compromising the privacy of their readers.

    Cons

The technical side of the company, as well as a number of business employees, work remotely. For a certain personality, that can make for an isolating/lonely experience. Conversely, many (I think most) value the flexibility this setup offers. In part because of the changing business needs that come with any high-growth startup, establishing medium-/long-term career goals can be difficult for some people. It's easy...

    Advice to Management

Work with employees to set three/six/twelve-month goals, ensuring that they have a clear sense for their potential growth trajectory. Continue to be on guard for the anti-patterns in remote-team communication that can arise as a company scales.

I have been working at Parsely full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Work/Life Balance: This exists here. You "choose" your hours. While there is a bit of a standard set of when you should be online, you never feel pressured to be in at the exact time every day. PTO is substantial, you never feel ashamed if you need to take legitimate sick or personal day. -Growth and Development: Team and Personal Goals are clear, once established it's up to you to accomplish them. There is no micro-managing,...

    Cons

    - Transparency: This one is a bit of a double-edged sword. While communication is excellent and the vision of the company is there, like every startup, there are and will be gaps that need to be bridged. Sometimes teams can be siloed, and it is hard to understand what everyone is working on. However, management knows of this and are working on processes to prevent this. Outside of that, there are no cons. Accepting...

    Advice to Management

    - Don't forget the things that brought you here. Culture, Commitment to the Product and your investment in your employees. As you continue to scale and get large, it is hard to keep up that personal touch.

    Pros

work from anywhere, smart and caring coworkers, interesting tasks, the ability to create your own goals, no micromanagement

    Cons

Hardly any! The only con I can think of is sometimes there's a communication gap between teams.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

I have been working at Parsely full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

    - Remote team - Bright people - Regularly ships code - No micromanagement - Colleagues do open source work - People are friendly, lots of collaboration

    Cons

    - Pay is slightly below average for industry, but getting better - Competitive market for the product - Scale of systems sometimes a bit intimidating - Think the product team could be a little bigger to spread work around

    Advice to Management

The founders are very focused on culture, and it really shows. They also have a lot of employees who have been here several years and keep the culture maintained even in the day-to-day work. My biggest piece of advice would be not to become corporate as the headcount and revenue continues to grow!

I have been working at Parsely full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

    * The company puts people and their well-being first. * The whole development team is remote, and the process is optimized for that. * Smart and knowledgeable people you can learn from. * No micromanagement. * No jerks / egomaniacs / sociopaths tolerated. * Set your own work hours. * Good work-life balance.

    Cons

    * Salaries are not at the top (that's understandable for a startup though). * No 401K matching. * Working remotely can get lonely.

    Advice to Management

You're doing great. Please don't turn into a standard corporate monster as you grow!

I have been working at Parsely full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    - Work with great people who are all self-driven - Founders value building a great team first - Great company culture - Amazing company retreats give a chance to know your remote coworkers better - The product provides real value to people

    Cons

    - Remote teams only get to meet up every ~6 months - Your equity is unlikely to set you up for life

    Advice to Management

Keep the great company culture, but at the same time don't let us be hindered by avoiding change as the company grows.
