I have been working at Parsely full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Employees are challenged to constantly grow in their career.
    - Lots of trust and freedom.
    - Collaborative work environment with plenty of opportunity to contribute outside the realm of the standard job description.
    - The company takes steps to ensure work / life balance.
    - Fast growth in terms of revenue and product.
    - Happy customers.

    Cons

    - Sometimes lack some formal structure around things we've not encountered before as a growing company. Have to figure them out on the fly!

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Parsely full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Remote team
    - Bright people
    - Regularly ships code
    - No micromanagement
    - Colleagues do open source work
    - People are friendly, lots of collaboration

    Cons

    - Pay is slightly below average for industry, but getting better
    - Competitive market for the product
    - Scale of systems sometimes a bit intimidating
    - Think the product team could be a little bigger to spread work around

    Advice to Management

The founders are very focused on culture, and it really shows. They also have a lot of employees who have been here several years and keep the culture maintained even in the day-to-day work. My biggest piece of advice would be not to become corporate as the headcount and revenue continues to grow!

I have been working at Parsely full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * The company puts people and their well-being first.
    * The whole development team is remote, and the process is optimized for that.
    * Smart and knowledgeable people you can learn from.
    * No micromanagement.
    * No jerks / egomaniacs / sociopaths tolerated.
    * Set your own work hours.
    * Good work-life balance.

    Cons

    * Salaries are not at the top (that's understandable for a startup though).
    * No 401K matching.
    * Working remotely can get lonely.

    Advice to Management

You're doing great. Please don't turn into a standard corporate monster as you grow!

    Cons

I have been working at Parsely full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible working hours, very relaxed office, the ability to work remotely, equipment budget, professional and personal development. Start up culture where one wears many hats and works with many different departments. Office has lots of snacks, booze, games, areas to relax.

    Cons

Company direction is not always clear (other than profitability) but as is the case with many earlier stage startups. Being a startup, salaries are lower than other similar businesses though the potential to grow is definitely there.

    Advice to Management

Hire more individuals to fill the gaps in the current employee base. Pay your top contributors market rate.

I have been working at Parsely full-time

    Pros

    - The founders give everyone a lot of trust and flexibility.
    - They've also managed to foster a product team that is tight-knit, even though we are fully distributed.
    - Almost no meetings
    - Very little bureaucracy
    - Company and team retreats for everyone to get together a couple times a year.

    Cons

    - Sometimes it's lonely to work remotely.
    - Benefits are pretty typical for start-ups, so not great for retirement.

    Advice to Management

    - Continue fostering a great culture and respecting your employees.
    - Keep striving for profitability without sacrificing what makes working at Parse.ly great.

I have been working at Parsely full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture: everyone at Parsely is absolutely incredible. My wife likes to joke that I've joined a cult, but it's true: as a mostly remote team, they've really nailed the importance of hiring for culture and making sure everybody is fun, nice, and dedicated to their job while still making sure to preserve work / life balance.

The age spread is a little to the younger side (late 20s / early 30s, especially younger on the business side) but it's an understanding and accepting place for parents too: there are quite a few people who have or are now having kids on staff and everybody respects their time (no recurring overtime / crazy expectations for being available 24/7).

Overall, just a great place to work and I enjoy coming to work every day!

    Cons

This may not be a con (it isn't for me) but it might be for some people: Parsely's definitely a place for self-starters. See a problem, address it; see an obstacle, try to get around it. If you're just looking for a place where you'll be given clean, discrete, tasks and guided through them, this isn't the place for you- part of the job is figuring out what can be made better and going ahead and doing it!

    Advice to Management

Don't lose the culture: at every job prior to this one, it wasn't the salary or benefits that make me discontent, it was the work culture. You've done an amazing job of hiring only people who respect and value each other, their work, and their time, and it's been a pleasure working here as a result- don't lose that!
