I worked at Parsons Brinckerhoff (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Has challenging projects mostly involving rail transit upgrades and new routes all across the US and Canada. A good place to learn from experts.

    Cons

The volume of work fluctuates causing stress due to excessive workload or lack of work. Which is typical of the industry but the management does not want workers to do overtime or charge to overhead.

    Advice to Management

The management should allow a 10% overhead charge to cover such lack of work.

I worked at Parsons Brinckerhoff full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everything was good at PB. Be it the work culture, the colleagues, the client, everything. I was always motivated to go to the office everyday.

    Cons

Although everything was very good at PB the only con i think was the job security which was always fluctuating due to the changes in the top management.

    Advice to Management

The advice is to stabilize the top management so that the employees working don't start thinking of changing the jobs.

I worked at Parsons Brinckerhoff full-time

    Pros

WSP-PB works on many of the largest projects in the US and has exceptional technical talent to deliver these projects. They have a very strong brand, especially in the Transportation sector.

    Cons

Leadership at the very top lacks the vision to see beyond a 12-month budget. Most employees are unaware of what the vision of the business is other than winning the largest projects.

    Advice to Management

Create and communicate a plan beyond the next twelve months.
Change the leadership to bring in new perspectives and ones that are strategic in nature.

    Pros

Strong history, Great Projects, Good people,

    Cons

Disconnected Canadian/UK owners and Management who don't understand the engineering industry and manage the firm by accountants.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that your resources go out the door every night and you want to encourage them to comeback everyday.

I worked at Parsons Brinckerhoff full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Exceptional benefits, 401k match, overtime pay, enormously interesting projects, technically fascinating. Plus a world class, prestigious operation that carries weight.

    Cons

As an architect in an engineering firm, there is not much emphasis on design. If it's a high profile project, design is sub-contracted. But, if hired directly by PB, you'll be making far more than the contracted designers, and getting paid to work 80 hour weeks.

    Advice to Management

QA/QC. Period. I understand the schedule and budgetary constraints, but when in complete compliance with the client demands, nothing gets done correctly. Across all disciplines. Big Dig, Hudson Yards....waterproofing failures. Every one knows it and ignores what is literally in front of it just to hit a scheduled deadline for progress sets. QA/QC never have a moment to look at anything coming across their desk. Get more qualified people to control the outflow.
