I worked at PartnerRe full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Had a great culture when I was there - smart, hard working people trying to do the right thing.

    Cons

Protracted takeover battle cost the company some good people, and created some ill will.

    Pros

Strong reinsurance company with much room for growth. Operated at a high level and but made the work environment relaxing. Very generous to employees with picnics and employee social happy hours.

    Cons

Management didn't promote growth or promotions within departments. Seemed almost too relaxed rather than helping other get to next level.

    Advice to Management

Help promote others for growth within the company. Manage better training functions to help new hire's understand the industry and how they can benefit from it.

    Pros

Great people, solid company in the past. Culture of trying to do the right thing, and positive work environment where the expectation is that you treat people with respect. Smart, technical people that have done well by the shareholders.

    Cons

Currently in turmoil due to uncertainty over either (a) merger with Axis where lots of people will lose jobs; or (2) takeover by Exor, where it is not clear who would lead the company or how it would be positioned in the market. Senior management used to be extremely strong, but massive turnover of good people at the top has weakened that position even before Costas Miranthis walked out after the Axis deal was announced.

    Advice to Management

Takeover uncertainty needs to be resolved quickly to restore productivity.

I worked at PartnerRe full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This company is generally staffed with good, talented people, and has a culture committed to doing the right thing. People work hard, but there is a respect for the necessity of a work-life balance.

    Cons

I have heard that there is now significantly less communication from senior management to employees than previously, and that some good people are leaving the company.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that success depends ultimately on people executing appropriately; increase communication with employees.
