I worked at Party City part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Made some great friends in the two yrs.

    Cons

low pay, Customers get away with everything, all they have to do is complain. When Halloween items sales are final, when they bring back after Halloween, they were told they can not get a refund, all they gotta do is yell,, throw a fit and mgmt overrides the head cashiers. Customers get money back. So basically customers wears costumes and return.

    Advice to Management

Stand behind policy, and head cashiers when refunding items.

I worked at Party City part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

5-7 hour shifts, employee discount, helpful staff

    Cons

Worked during the Halloween seasonal positions until early November. It was acceptable but when a customer was told that "All Sales were Final" they became aggressive and the manager had to be called to clarify. This held up the already long cue.
There is no room for job advancement, promotions, or raises as General Managers and Shift Managers are hired from the outside.
Since the location was mostly taken up by the showroom there is no space for training and besides a short 2 hour video training is expected to be done on the job.
Also, since the lines are always long both customers and staff can become aggressive if there are any mistakes or conflicts that hold up the line, even if it is your first day on the job.
You are also expected to work nights, weekends, and holidays if you are available.

    Advice to Management

Please allow Sales Associates the chance to rise up through the company ranks to at least a management position, also make the "All Sales Final" policy more clear to customers so they know what they are getting into.

I worked at Party City full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work/life balance
    Friendly people
Good for entry level/first time corporate experience
    Systems are easy to use

    Cons

Everyone likes to point fingers and no one is willing to take the blame for their own mistakes

Opportunity for growth is based on luck and who likes you rather than your performance

Upper management changes their mind all the time

    Salary is below average

The job title changed a few times while I was there - it is truly category management and NOT traditional buying for most categories

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites and promote the people with talent. Pay them a fair salary. If you’re looking for first time experience with low stress this is a fantastic place to work. Not a long term career company
