I worked at Party City full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The discount, you do make great connections with some employees.

    Cons

Unrealistic goals from corporate. No payroll to accomplish what corporate wants. A huge lack in communication with store General Managers and the people above them. A HUGE turnover in you're year round staff, which just creates more problems down the road for the management team. The company doesn't value their long timers (thus alot of them are leaving the company). The process for their seasonal transitions is a joke. For a major transition (Summer to Halloween and Halloween to Holiday) it's expected for a team of just 3-4 managers to pull off. Normal associates have no training nor any idea on how to help with transitions and it's not something that can be taught in 10 minutes.

If you are part of the management staff, don't expect to have a life outside of work. And if you're just an associate, don't expect to get any hours to make a living off of.

    Advice to Management

Give your people the sense of self worth. Actually care! Allow them to be able to get help when they really need it, not just yell at them because it's not all getting done. Just because a perfect store can accomplish something, doesn't mean that all stores are set up in the same way. (Alot of stores are having issues with staff and staff that can actually understand how to set a POG).

I worked at Party City full-time

    Pros

Not busy during the normal xmas rush.

    Cons

    Unrealistic expectations - Poor communication

    Advice to Management

Nothing. I believe everyone is in the same sad boat. All the way up to the District Manager level.

I have been working at Party City full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They do not usually receive job applications from competent or experienced individuals, resulting in easy employment. Flexible hours to some degree.

    Cons

Corporate culture is the worst I have ever experienced; sexism, racism and mysoginy abounds, and incompetent people are promoted based on tenure rather than ability.

    Advice to Management

This company can do so much better if they focus on identifying future leaders, and placing them in accelerated management positions.

I worked at Party City part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy job, not much to do other than stand at the front of the store and check people out and keep the place clean in general. But for the most part it was kinda an 'eh' job.

    Cons

The managers were not kind and understanding of disabilities, nobody was happy there and nobody wanted to do the work. You could work there forever and hardly get above minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

improve your attitude. If you aren't in a good mood or happy to be there, the people who work for you aren't going to be happy there doing their job.

I have been working at Party City full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It can be fun if you make it fun.
The work isn't hard if you have staff.
    Upper management is getting better.

    Cons

We never have enough staff, and if we do, we don't have the hours to give them.
No one gets paid enough for the work they do.
You have to fight for every penny of every raise you get.
Pay is unfairly given - someone with less experience and no degree was paid the same as someone with double the experience and a college degree.
They say there is room for career advancement, but my position was eliminated and someone with tenure was picked because of their "loyalty" to the company.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they deserve based on merit.
Have more involvement at the store level - your expectations are outrageous.
Give us some payroll! We get customer complaints because we are overworked, tired, grumpy, and have too much on our plates! No one should have to work 14 + hours because YOU won't let us accommodate for the business we do.

I worked at Party City full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Holiday, sick, vacation pay, always lots to do and the days go by fast!

    Cons

Things are always changing! Upper management cannot decide how they want to execute processes. It was all changing when I was laid off, so maybe their processes will start to run smoother now.

    Advice to Management

Give the stores hours for customer service!

I worked at Party City full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stores close relatively early for retail. The majority of stores close by 8:30 on weekdays and 6:00 on Sundays

    Cons

Way too many Plan-o-gram changes. Literally a quarter of the store changes every month or so. Every sale is very labor intensive and every customer requires a lot of engagement.

    Extremely sku-intensive

    Advice to Management

Every member of management will end up running the register no matter how well you manage payroll. There's a large learning curve for new associates in terms of product knowledge and location so you have to invest quite a lot of time for each associate and there is a large turnover.

I worked at Party City full-time

    Pros

There is nothing really good to say

    Cons

There's no change management process. People make all kinds of changes to systems and don't tell anyone. They are upgrading to Windows 8 instead of Windows 10, which every company in the world is doing. Terrible benefits.

    Advice to Management

Hire new blood management. Theres a reason why the company is at a loss every year.
