I worked at Party City full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good entry level experience in retail, relatively easy to advance with good work ethic and positive attitude, customer interaction can be enjoyable, easy to learn

    Cons

Corporate frequently sends conflicting broadcasts on direction, lots of favoritism, unrealistic expectations, high turnover rate (due to seasonal employees) leads to under-trained staff, sales initiatives/directions are often counter intuitive

I have been working at Party City part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good discount, blowing balloons can be fun, generous time off/ exceptions during hurricane

    Cons

Associates do everything and anything the managers want, very physically demanding, stingey about breaks, managers get stressed out on busy days and act out on associates..

    Advice to Management

It takes more than 3 people( 1 is a manger that doesn’t really do anything) to close, people should get breaks if they work more than 4 hours- not 6+, better training system for new employees, alternate tasks so everyone is good at everything not just only 2 really good balloon people etc, be more understanding to students and their schedules..

I worked at Party City (More than a year)

    Pros

Great discount - 30%, store sells fun merchandise

    Cons

no backup at all from managers. there can be 7 people in line, the phone ringing, balloon orders to complete, and no managers are willing to back up the lone cashier, customers can be very rude regarding balloons.

    Advice to Management

Support your team. One person cannot run the entire store alone.

I worked at Party City part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers were friendly. Tasks required were not difficult. Good place to get initial work experience, so you can leave and go somewhere better.

    Cons

Boring. Low Pay. ALWAYS understaffed, and management would yell at you when you couldn't clear a line of 30 people checking out, AND blow up 50 balloons at the same time. Then they would get mad when you ask for help, and then get mad when you didnt ask for help. lose-lose

    Advice to Management

    Hire more people

I have been working at Party City full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great discount. Easy to get in. Not too hard to get promoted. Great job for high school and college students. You definitely learn a lot about retail and working in a fast paced environment.

    Cons

Management is not great. Some of them have been there too long. Hours are sometimes hard to get if you're a cashier. The recent layoffs fired a lot of good workers. Customers can be arrogant and will complain to corporate for every little thing.

    Advice to Management

Promote people who work hard and actually deserve it. Not just men who are approachable over women who work hard. Drug test your managers more regularly.
