I have been working at Party City full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    The co-workers
    The discount
    Flexible hours

    Cons

    The co-workers
    Customers/ customers children
    The disrespect
    The pay
    The unrealistic expectations
    The lack of praise
    The amount of condescension

    Advice to Management

Pay your associates and managers better. I have been spit on and had people not only threaten to hit me but actually take swings. I can't confront thieves but I'm expected to have corresponding on hands and actual amounts. The only time my work is praised is by my customers. But if any one thing is wrong there is no lack of condescending comments on my work. Treat your employees better.

I worked at Party City full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Benefits are ok
30% discount on product that already has high margins
    Company makes, distributes own product
Pay rate depending on what position you hold

    Cons

*Leadership is awful, does not spend anytime focusing on people development within stores or the field. Actually talks down and belittles people on the sales floor
*No Payroll Model or structure implemented for the store teams. Payroll is given on as needed basis to complete overdue tasks. (Throw a dart at the wall to see how many hours a store will get)
*Workload is not realistic for the store teams with new tasks coming out daily. Time to complete each task is far greater than the staffing headcount or payroll hours allow.
*Micromanaging at all levels. Field team focuses more on workload than the value of the associates that are trying to complete the work.
*Huge Disconnect between corporate and the field. In most cases HR has no idea what is going on and does very little to support.
    *Technology is outdated
*Policies and Procedures are from the 1980s with no innovation to update or change.
*Company lacks forward thinking, innovative, strategic leaders who can identify with each of the markets.
*Not compliant with State laws around hazmat, meal premiums, working off the clock or scheduling.
*Just did a huge restructure to save money

    Advice to Management

In a volatile retail environment it is imperative that changes happen from the top down. Focus should be on people development, placing great talent in strategic markets. Move away from leaders that can't influence, recognize, develop, innovate or belittle/yell at their teams.

I have been working at Party City full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Chance to meet cool and friendly people at certain locations.
Very flexible with schedule, depending on GM.
A lot of nifty benefits if you know where to look.

    Cons

Corporate is sloppy, unorganized, and doesn't know which direction to head in. Party City is only around because Amscan (manufacturer that owns Party City) uses it to undercut their own customers. And it shows. The job is good for a student, anyone else expect to be at Party City 10+ years before making a decent income, as long as your hourly you'll never get out what you put in.

    Pros

    Good discount on merchandise
    Usually pretty good coworkers
    Not an incredibly difficult job
Management is good and usually has your back

    Cons

Halloween can be insane or fun depends on who you are
Customers as usual can be incredibly rude untrustworthy
Some nights you will be at the store well after close trying to get it straightened up for the next day

    Advice to Management

Sometimes you can be too relaxed with employees find a good balance
