I have been working at PartyLite full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

All the 'pros' are gone. Used to be plenty. Morale is at an all time low. New management could care less about anything but themselves.

    Cons

New leadership is not leading. Not communicating. Not using the resources they have. Not building a bridge to the future, if there is a future here. Trying many of the things we tried before. You wouldn't know because you don't listen to us!

    Advice to Management

Leadership needs to talk to each other. One doesn't know what the other is doing. Listen to the people you still have on staff that have been here for a long time. Many of us know what we are talking sbout.

I have been working at PartyLite full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A medium sized company, but feels like a small company. The staff all know each other and are friendly. The best thing about being there is the people I get to work with and interact with every day. The company has been good to me and flexible throughout the years that I have been there. The benefits are very good.

    Cons

Communication is a problem between upper management and staff. The business often changes on a quickly and it is difficult to complete a task or initiative effectively. Upper management is often reactionary and it is difficult to break out of our 'old' ways. There is also not enough staff to keep up with the demand of the workload.

    Advice to Management

Open channels of communication. Use your staff based on their abilities. Bring new staff in to help energize existing people and to help with workload.

I have been working at PartyLite full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

PartyLite's Home Office is gorgeous and the employees are all really down to earth. It's like a big family! The company is also very involved in the community, with annual participation in the Thanksgiving parade and fundraising for the American Cancer Society, which isn't something you see a lot these days.

    Cons

Many employees have been with the company for a very long time; turnover is pretty low. This is great, because people clearly like working at PartyLite, but that also means that there is limited opportunities to move around or up the ranks.

    Advice to Management

Don't stop doing the little things! Employee events, gifts, and recognition make such a big difference!

I worked at PartyLite full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

great work/life balance, employees get discounts on products, most co-workers are friendly

    Cons

No true leadership at executive level - lots of politics and in-fighting among themselves! No training to keep individual skills current, little opportunity for promotion. A job not a career.

    Advice to Management

Lead proactively, not passive aggressively. Healthier culture will result.

I worked at PartyLite full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Great environment, good people, and a clean and organized laboratory.
-There were several knowledgeable people in both R&D and the manufacturing plant.
-Always good experience to work in a laboratory next door to a manufacturing plant.
-For the most part, a laid back environment.
-Annual reviews with decent raises for those who performed.

    Cons

-There was a sense of a "clique" with upper management. If you were not in with them you were the first to lose your job even if you were more qualified that the people who remained.
-A few of the formulators took a "shotgun" approach to researching new materials, and sometimes never fully understanding the why. It was sometimes frustrating to work with the few who took this inefficient approach to R&D where sometimes design-of-experiments was not fully respected.
-You better not dislike fragrances or you will regret this job.
-If you work in the manufacturing plant, even for a short period of time, the fragrant odor on you and your clothes will be easily recognizable by anyone close to the neighborhood (A waitress at a restaurant 5 miles away walks up to our table and just exclaims, "You work at the candle company!" We just sigh and say, "yes we do.").

    Advice to Management

Invest in training for you R&D staff.
