I worked at Parx Casino full-time

    Pros

CEO holds annual town hall meetings so people can express their concerns and tell them things that are not working, there have been changes based on information given at these meetings. Human Resources is available to help employees when needed or answer questions. People are always willing to help each other out and assist with problems. Directors are involved with their employees and go above and beyond. Fun events...

    Cons

Lack of diversity in the top levels of management. Some employees who are never satisfied even when improvements are made.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to your employees - all levels of employees not just hourly paid, your supervisors, managers, directors all want to feel like they matter as well and that there are things they can do to help grow the business as well as in their roles in the organization.

I worked at Parx Casino part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Have the opportunity to make lots of money. 24 hour company can get lucky to find a schedule that fits you. Meet lots of people. Can build amazing relationships with guest and employees. Fun environment.

    Cons

Might end up working grave shift even if you don't want to. You will work holidays, nights, and weekends unless your super lucky. Smoking environment. Guest of the casino can be really nasty and in most cases management doesn't back you up. A lot of favoritism going in between management and employees (may have to kiss butt to move up) but not in all cases.

    Advice to Management

Learn a little more about your employees and build better relationships. Defend them if you can for human sake from guest that are flat out wrong.

I worked at Parx Casino full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Parx casino can sometimes be a fun place to work. They try to make their employees happy, by giving gifts in the holiday seasons. "I'll be great if they can give bonuses". If you were scored a great rate on a secret shopper you will be rewarded with a free daily lunch or a gift card.

    Cons

Parx casino can be very stressful at times. Once you get hired. They let you know that after your 6 months you are welcome to transfer to another dept. Which is always not true. Of course you have to follow all procedures with the 6 months. Its a lot of favoritism involve. Some managers are very selfish about letting a employee go to another dept. Some of their policies are very weak. They do not provide bonuses on the...

    Advice to Management

Managers needs to consider other employees that wants to improve in the casino. They should be better with making their dept the best and make their employee happy. They are very selfish and find every way to hold a good employee back from meeting their goals within the casino.

I have been working at Parx Casino full-time

      Pros

Although tips vary day to day, they generate a living wage salary if you're a full time employee. Easy access from I-95 and pa turnpike.

      Cons

Difficult to achieve fulltime status. Any promotion or departmental move requires a transfer to night shift-which is no trouble for some folks but can present problems for others. Difficult to take time off as a dealer (vacation and sick time are paid at base rate, so $35-$45/day is not an option for many dealers. We simply can't afford the loss of pay). Gamblers are often angry and cruel-understandable, because most...

I worked at Parx Casino full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Great pay for a college student; $15 per hour plus tips as a Player Service Representative. I could make anywhere between $1 to $600 in tips in one night.

      Cons

      1) Racism...yes, RACISM is a problem at Parx Casino and not in the way you probably think (Black vs. White). A lot of my coworkers teased the Asian people in the "East Asian Gaming Room", saying things like they refuse to help them if they can't speak English, they stink and absolutely refusing to work in the Asian Gaming room. I am a shamed for not speaking up against my coworkers and their thoughts but I was one of...

      Advice to Management

For the casino to be owned by a foreigner, he should be more concerned how his staff treats his Asian clientele because they're being picked on for being foreign.

I have been working at Parx Casino part-time for more than a year

      Pros

Fun environment. Most floor managers back you up. You get a 20 minute break EVERY HOUR. Fun employee events. Easy job for decent pay. You can move up. Just do your job and do it well.

      Cons

The players can get extremely nasty with you and call you all types of names. (You call over your floor supervisor and they will tell them to stop. If they continue the player is removed from your game.) Players tend to blow smoke in your face or around you. Depending on how upset they are.
