Good for drivers that have been off the road for a long time to get back on the road. Company is willing to verify past experience beyond 3 years & pay accordingly.
Cons
They will waste half the time you make yourself available to work for. Operations hoards load info like it's Classified beyond a driver's security clearance. Customer Service Dept is barely competent, if not incompetent, fails to obtain basic info to either get loaded or unloaded resulting in prolonged delays & lost income. Safety department makes "Company Policy" on a whim. No policies provided in black & white. And will terminate drivers known to fight for miles based on "policies" stated as permissable during orientation then fireable after making a huff over how much money they're costing you due to downtime to constant mismanagement. PTL's entire business model is based on driver churn. Hire as many drivers as possible regardless of whether operations can keep them moving. Keep the ones who don't care how little they earn & invent "policies" to fire those that push back against their incompetence.

Pros
It's an Employee owned company? After 5 years of Employment you receive shares in the company. In other words the company is mostly owned by the people behind the phone not behind the wheel. As a driver (who is often the face of the company) I was told its not my job to talk to the customer that's what customer service is for.
Cons
Very low freight movement starting after close of business Friday to start of business Monday morning. I sit on weekends more often than not. Poor communication from whoever it is that talks to customers. I've had multiple times the message I received was not what the customer wanted or was ready for example- loads not ready for shipment, empty trailer to swap when none was desired, late deliveries or pickup without letting driver know or even falsely stating delivery requirements time. Fleet Managers that lack professional courtesy. They let their emotions drive them.

Pros
Pay is high per mile, relaxed with not a lot of work.
Cons
You get very low miles, a lot of loads are scheduled and are firm deliveries. I spent 20 hours each week at least on one 300 mile load that ruined my take home for the week. Most weeks I was getting 1500 miles avg, with a 5/2 schedule. FM's are generally getting after you like a child for managing your time cleverly, they push you to leave right after your 10 hour even if it doesn't make sense for your appt delivery time. On your leave days its common that they'll find you a late pick up load, sometimes picking up as late as 9pm, ruins your first day out.

Nov 28, 2022 - Driver Trainee in Murray, KYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Excellent equipment, Employee Owned, NO snow chains, Safety oriented, Empowering training, and almost Entirely drop and Hook.
Cons
The only thing I had issues with was the discrepancy between what my recruiter told me and the reality of home time. I was told I would have to do 60 days OTR which meant 7 days out and 2 days home. Even the training videos suggested this was an option. However, the way to get home required you to wait until you had worked 6 days before you could request to be routed home. So, if on day 6 you finished your day in California, you were three days from home IF you had the hours to get there.
