I worked at Pasco County Schools part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They are understanding about issues that may arise with your own children. They offer some benefits to part time employees and full benefits to to full time employees. You have the option to stay at one school or move around without it affecting your pay or benefits.

    Cons

Having children in your class that refuse to listen or are purposely disrespectful. Parents that are upset about issues out of the teachers control. Low funding.

I have been working at Pasco County Schools part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Subbing is a wonderful way to work with children and familiarize oneself with the educational work field. There are many opportunities to see different schools and school grades, and courses, which is highly recommendable experience for anyone looking to become a teacher or staff member in the school district.
It's a rather rewarding career which enables a flexible schedule, and multitudes of different experiences and opportunities where one can positively impact and encourage learning experiences for a diverse variety of students.
School staff, especially in Pasco County, are very supportive of their substitute teachers. They appreciate their subs and work hard to provide assistance in classroom management upon request.
No one is ever "Just a sub" when they're an appreciated member of a very supportive team dedicated to growing the young minds of the future.

    Cons

As with any job, there are also some cons to a career as a substitute teacher.
    The pay is minimum wage.
There are no healthcare plans provided for substitutes, as they are technically classified under part-time employees. This is a con because each school has an average of 300-500 students per school, meaning that there's ample opportunity for a cold or virus to float around somewhere. The challenge in managing a classroom one is unfamiliar with only becomes more challenging when one cannot properly function at their absolute best.
The final con to be listed is the limited windows one has for a bathroom break. Aside from before students arrive for the school day, lunch, or after students have safely been dismissed for the day; there are no break options for substitutes, or teachers for that matter, to have an opportunity to excuse themselves for a much needed restroom break. As it goes against school policy for students to be left without adult supervision.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps with some team planning there can be a more sound schedule that will provide teachers and subs alike a better chance to alleviate themselves in the restroom, so as to prevent poor hygiene and health maintenance for the sculptors of our great future.

    Cons

No A.C. on buses, unprofessional staff, training program is not helpful and boring! No incentives to stay... no pay raises! Union is a joke... I watched 2 bus assistants get into a fist fight while on the clock and still keep their job!!

    Advice to Management

Act professional and maybe it will help staff follow!
