I worked at Passages Malibu full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It is one of the best treatment centers around. The staff and therapist do try hard. They do have an usual structure.

    Cons

More consistent goals, More work on process and less on ego, Too much up selling.

    Advice to Management

Over the last few years most of what have been my suggestion have been implemented. Make the institution more process oriented and less on personalities. (2013)

I worked at Passages Malibu full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Location...On PCH. Hard to beat that. But also quite a drive if you live on the westside or valley.

    Cons

Disorganized. High turnover. This is an okay place if you are on the medical side. If you are administrative (accounting/finance), don't waste your time. They need to get it together here. Maybe it will be better down the road.

    Advice to Management

Hire people that are willing to put in the time and pay their dues. Look for employees that have long experience...not newbies from flashy universities that will only stick around for a year. Newbies will run scared from this place once the mention of overtime comes into play.

I worked at Passages Malibu full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice location to work at and for the most part everyone is very professional and there to do their job.

    Cons

Turn over rate is very high and some departments. New employees do not get proper training or direction. Communication is very poor with upper management and employees. Most employees fear of being fired on a daily basis.

    Advice to Management

Speak to your employees and have regular meeting with them so everyone is on the same page!!

    Pros

Excellent dedicated therapists that provide one on one sessions

    Cons

The turnover of administrative staff sometimes affects the daily flow of things both for therapists and clients

    Advice to Management

This is a special population that need a special care, I believe that administrative staff need to understand the psychological profile of the clients more.

I have been working at Passages Malibu full-time

    Pros

Fantastic environment and opportunity to help change people's lives. The ability to give intensive one on one treatment to individuals struggling with addiction issues and really attend to the underlying conditions that drive addiction behavior. This allows the client to be free from the tyranny of addiction. Of course the setting is amazing! View of the Ocean and beautiful grounds makes me smile every day.

    Cons

I honestly cannot think of any "cons" to mention.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps some more team building amongst therapists and staff.

I worked at Passages Malibu full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Health Benefits
    -Minimal to no supervision

    Cons

    -Constant Gossip
-Feared losing my job daily and for good reason because they were unorganized and didn't know their own needs

    Advice to Management

Utilize data to determine what your needs are. Be more engaged in your staffs workflows. You had maintenance men looking for rooms to paint to keep busy. You had 3 1.0 FTE's working a 10 account daily insurance verification queue. There was little to no downtime work available. There was no management feedback whatsoever. I was hired did an excellent job for 3 weeks and was let go with absolutely no warning or communication. That's unfair and a waste of people's time. You have the tools you need to succeed but it seems you put all your eggs into the admissions department basket. There is so much process improvement needed.

    Pros

It is a great team to be a part of, we care about the clients and work hard. And we see results. Everyone on treatment team cares a lot about the clients' progress and we work well together. I can not imagine a stronger group that could care more about their welfare. Over 5 years working with them and it is still an honor to be able to help so many clients understand themselves better and get sober.

    Cons

Many of us are contract labor and the therapists, with little or no business experience, at first don't understand their role as contract labor. Some look for employee treatment. Not all but some. The industry also puts a lot of stress on all of the staff. Getting yelled at by someone that is still on meth or detoxing from heroin, or having to baby sit adults comes with this field - at any facility. Some staff, not treatment team, resent it quickly and leave disgruntled. Most are caring and stay.
