I worked at Pathfinder Energy Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great before merger with Schlumberger, coordinators leave you alone, good benefits.

    Cons

Schlumberger merger made you feel like a number, not a person. Tools, quality took a complete 180 after merger.

    Advice to Management

Get reorganized from top down, listen to input from lower end.

    Pros

Money. Salary is one thing but total compensation after bonuses is more than double for field hands. Vehicle allowance (maybe not anymore). Learn a lot in a short amount of time if you pay attention. See new places (as long as they are drilling there otherwise you see the same old places over and over again). If you have no family or are able to take them with you, opening yourself up to international travel can open many doors for you.

    Extremely safety conscious.

great for women engineers. They were promoted out of the field pretty readily.

    decent severance.

    Cons

Everyone is out to make a name for themselves, typically at the expense of others or without regard to whether or not the changes they make actually improve anything. Change something, make a pretty report about how its gonna revolutionize the work process, and then watch it burn as the field population are frustrated with yet another way to track things we already track.

you're away from home a lot doing something that, after you've got it down, doesn't require as many brain cells as you lose popping a top after you FINALLY get home. So once the shiny and newness wears off, you're bored. And then you realize that in order to do something else, there has to be a "business need" for you to get a chance to do it. No business need, no new skill set.

You aren't paid because your the smartest or best at something, you're paid to leave and stay away from home.

The business is run purely as a business, no sense of family or camaraderie unless you happen to stay in the field with the same people. but even then its a roll of the dice whether you work with someone pleasant, or some crusty inflated ego who thinks they are gods gift to the drilling world.

Endless revolving door of management. if you work there 5 years expect at least 6 new managers.

Crushingly tedious tracking. Paperwork is triplicate, with 3 different systems or methods depending on your management or location.

Drilling Schedule is so hard to work with because there is no schedule. You can't make any plans for your days off outside of formally requesting vacation. so your 3 weeks can get used up pretty quickly.

Seen several people threaten to quit and get promoted as a result.

    Advice to Management

This box is useless because there is such a revolving door in middle management by the time this is posted i would have had 4 new managers.

    Pros

    High pay.
    Decent benefits.
    Profit Sharing.

    Cons

After Schlumberger bought them out, there seemed to be no regard for the employees. We were routinely treated as just a number by the corporate office.

Work life balance was skewed drastically towards work. Schlumberger didn't care about personal life and routinely took away opportunities for management to give employees days off.
