*Customer Service Driven With No Sales Goals
    *Friendly Customers Who Love Shopping
    *Creative and Innovative Products
    *Flexible With Your Schedule
    *Minnesota Company

  2. "Fantastic co-workers, lovely merchandise, low pay."

I have been working at Patina Stores part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are pretty things to sell, the customers are happy to be there, your co-workers are wonderful, and the atmosphere is team-focused.

    Cons

The pay is incredibly low, especially in light of the huge profit margin on merchandise. No benefits for part-time employees. Without some discipline, you are likely to spend a good chunk of your paycheck in the store!

    Advice to Management

If you can afford to open a new store in Eden Prairie, you can afford to pay loyal employees more. They are critical to your success and growth. Discounts are great, but liveable wages are better.

I worked at Patina Stores full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Opportunity to be creative.
    Great coworkers.
    Store discount.

    Cons

    Extremely high staff turnover.
    Micromanagement to the max.
You will be expected to work more than 40 hrs/week more often than not if you are salaried/ full time (you will work 7 days/week most of December). You will be assured time off during 'slow seasons' but you will still work at least 40 hrs/wk year round. Vacation and sick time are frowned upon.
Company owners are not respectful of employees. I witnessed customers complain to management after seeing the owner belittle staff on the salesfloor.
Little room for growth. If you do your job well, you will stay in that role, and get passed over for promotions.
Multiple giant new stores are causing the brand to quickly lose its authenticity.

    Advice to Management

This is retail, not saving babies.
A constant request for a sense of urgency creates burnout and dread.
Respect your staff. They enjoy doing their jobs. Remove the emotion from your constructive criticism, don't make it so personal. Crying at work sucks.
Promote your existing staff when they apply for new roles. Nobody wants to be stuck in the same spot forever, especially just because you don't think you can find successful replacement for their role. Only hiring from the outside and passing over your loyal employees undermines your mission. Why would you assume someone unfamiliar with your company could/ will do a better job than someone you've trained and employed for years??!
Be kind. The people you employ are wonderful and they deserve a little gratitude.

I have been working at Patina Stores full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This is a medium sized, locally owned small business. Everyone contributes to the future outcome of the company on a daily basis.

    Cons

This is a growing company going through a lot of changes. It requires a greater dedication than many corporate retail settings.

    Pros

Despite poor leadership, Patina does have a knack of hiring great employees. Lifelong friendships. Strong teamwork.

    Cons

Immature leadership, lack of loyalty to employees, low morale, poor communication and plenty of scapegoating.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, ask their opinion. Empower employees with trust and a strong foundational training.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Patina Stores (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - great work environment (mostly young, hip, female employees - great camaraderie) Very relaxed work atmosphere
    - easy to get hired for part-time position (no background check, no drug test). Constantly hiring ads on Craigslist and Indeed
-flexible schedule (opportunity to make your own schedule/hours; time off on short notice no problem)
    - generous store discount ( 20% first 3 months, 30% 3 months-1 year, 40% after 1 year; one 50% off coupon before X-Mas)
    - lots of moving around and being active (loading and unloading delivery trucks or containers)

    Cons

    - huge employee turnover
    - Low compensation (Minimum wage with 0.25 cents raises annually)
    - dirty, hands on work with heavy lifting of boxes and furniture up and down tiny, narrow, and unsafe staircases (job postings say ¨must be able to lift up to 40lbs¨ but should say ¨must be able to lift over 40lbs¨). Unloading fumigated containers from India. Dollies are not allowed - no safety measures in place.
    -prefer young, hip employees
-unethical work procedure (removing ¨Made in China¨ and ¨Contains lead¨ stickers from merchandise to make items look ¨local¨ - especially Jewelry)

    Advice to Management

Web store shut down in 2014 because of poor sales - mostly because items are overpriced and can be found on other websites for less.

I worked at Patina Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Great hourly pay with possible raises every 6 months
-Fun environment, a lot of my coworkers became my friends
-I may have encountered 3-4 rude customers in my 2+ years working for Patina. Everyone is happy when they come in there!
    -40% discount!!!!

    Cons

-A lot of turnover in FT management
-Hangings can be hazardous between ladder works and nailing
-The store's layout and lack of security is begging for inventory shrinkage
-A lot of your paycheck will go right back into the store
    -Favoritism among employees
-Patina is owned by a married couple. The wife is lovely but only met her a few times. The husband visits the stores often and doesn't care to learn your name or say hello

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

A fun environment with a family feeling comradery amongst staff. Management was flexible, supportive and caring. Great to work with cool product.

    Cons

Schedule may be fairly inconsistent from week to week, as many hourly part time jobs are. Very hands on so not a job for those not willing to get their hands dirty.

    Advice to Management

Look to sales staff for career development in merchandising and product recommendations. A merchandising assistant/internship would be a great opportunity for staff in college and hoping to grow skills.
